I feel the need to have a quick..ish rant about a dealer I was trying to spend 15k

Featured Replies

Sorry about this but I will keep this brief!!

Went into what I thought was a reputable ford dealership in glasgow and for the 2nd time in a fortnight to have a second run in a focus st before I potenitially bought 1 as I need more boot space to put all my wee guys stuff in.

1st of all they poofed about trying to get some1 to take me out as they were understaffed and this took 25mins and then they tried to talk me into a deal which I was going to get 8k back for my car which is an 06 with full leather and xenons which I wasnt going to accept anyway.

Then they showed me a finance proposal for a new st2 when I specifically asked for an st3 this was going to skin me 414quid per month for four years!!

gets better!! after I nearly choked I was then asked if I would like to go to their used section which after being in the glitzy showroom I was taken to arthur daleys hut which I stupidly sat and listened to a pile of guff and to-ing and fro-ing for a further 20 min s at which point I said I was too busy to wait any longer and I was then told I would be better of taking a brand new st3 18k plus which was going to cost me 350 per month for a five year deal!!!!!!! That was after telling that the depreciation of them is terrible!!!!

what a waste of valuable life!!! argh.....

will now stick to skoda....

you have been warned!!:finger:

Aye a lot of bankers in the ford shops,

Stick to Skoda?!?! Well good luck with that :P:rofl:

Chris

Was it an Arnold Clark dealership?

Give it 3 - 6 months and you'd have realised that you couldn't cope with 18mpg and sold the fecker anyway - Lucky escape IMHO.

:iagree:

Poor mpg, apparently dull to drive and horrendous depreciation.

They need to do a diesel ST Focus. That'd sell well IMO.

i can see a diesel Octy Vrs being sold in the near future

Treat you like a wally - they get what they deserve. No sale.

You did right - walked away.

Good luck with your search and final choice.

erm, you living on Mars?

I like the Focus ST but then I'm a sucker for fast Fords. always have been!

cheers for that guys, may now consider a roof box but then again I might just get a race blue octy anyway with 18s xenons etc and also a much better deal on my car at my skoda dealer!!

the dealer was evans helshaw.....

v v v lucky escape, just wish I hadnt given them so much of my time.

not sure if it is of any intrest but I guy who I know has an ST and hates the thing.

yes he says it is quick and handles very well but is it horrible to live with!

it might be his but he says it has lots of flat spots in the rev range and he is constantly changing gear.

as a result he has had it 6 months form new and is now looking to change for something else.

his advice is don't buy one!

Having owned the Focus ST and Fabia Vrs I feel I can comment.

In my experience most ford dealers are very poor to say the least. One of the reasons I now have a skoda is because I didn't want to line the pockets of "that lot" any further.

As for the ST, I loved every minute of mine. Awesome performance (especially with Dreamscience), Very good handling, fantastic 5pot sound, and as mentioned before, It is amazingly efficient at emptying its petrol tank.

I only got rid of it because when I sold there was still a massive wait for the things and I sold mine for more than I paid for it. I am also about to join the Police Force, there is going to be an initial pay cut so wanted something fun but more economical.

You will love the car, get one of the re-maps available and an IC and you will own a seriously fun toy.

Ignore the dealers and try not to be too upset when u have been ruined by the fule costs - otherwise enjoy.

Also having owned both vRS and the ST2 (plus 2007 Civic type R) I have to say I agree with the poor mpg, but can't agree with the rest. Out of the 3 cars I found the focus is definitely the best to drive, powerful, comfortable (I found the Civic terribly uncomforable, just could not get the seating position right), nimble and quite roomy.

With regards to the depreciation, compared to the Octy vRS deisel there is nothing in it really. St losing a small amount more in year 1 but years 2, 3 and four are neck and neck.

If you can stand the poor mpg I would recommend the ST to anyone.

Derek.

Even in Orange? :D

To be honest I'd like to have a go in one to see which side of the fence I end up on.

Some people say they're boring to drive and the engine is no-where near as good as they were expecting. Others say the opposite.

Coming from the Furby which has all it's shove at 2k rpm the ST is supposed to be a bit more linear in it's approach. Anyone care to comment?

shame you had to miss out due to the crappy service from the dealer:thumbdwn:

320 Nm of torque from 1600rpm up to 4000rpm :)

My dad was going to buy a Ford Focus a few months ago. But we were shocked by the dealer. Making us wait 45 minutes for a pre-booked test drive. As if that wasn't enough the staff were very arrogant, so much so that i got into an argument with one of them.

It definitely put us off and dad instead brought a Honda Civic which, incidentally, he's very pleased with.

I think this graph shows just hwo torquey across the bulk of the rev range the Focus is:

Chipped it seems a bit more peaky, but those figures are impressive! :D

that's not a real graph though, just someone's idea of what a nice graph should look like...apparently:rolleyes:;)

Much that I like the look of the Focus ST, those performance graphs which have been produced for Superchips should really be taken with a pinch of salt imho

I wish I had 15k to spend on one, especially an orange one! :D

Hummm, I was having similar thoughts, maybe there is a tie up/agreement between AC and EH - us car buyers just need to become even craftier than before!

The initial surge from 1600rpm in the focus was very satisfyng. I think the comments about the linear power delivery probably come when comparing to other hatches like the VXR which has a massive turbo kick but results in horrendous troque steer and loss of controlability.

In my experience it was quite similar in its power deliver to the vrs or and other diesel's for that matter. There wasn't much point going beyond 4500rpm as the torque dropped off quite dramatically and unless you were really going for it the gains after this point were not significant.

Agree with all thats been said, lucky escape, right choice, wouldn't line their pockets etc...

Even although the new ST is competitively priced I'd still rather go for an Octy vRS full of gadgets and extras and then IF you really needed extra power, get a fairly cheap remap.

Also - can't beat the new Octavia if you need a big boot

Because they weren't done at JKM, or because they don't paint the 2.0 TFSI in as good a light? The shapes of the graph seem to agree with people's reviews of the car and while the actual before and after figures may not be right, chances are the difference in bhp/lbft between the two should be accurate as each run will be out the same....
