talextt on tomtom one

try Pocket GPS World

Found some more concerning problems, dont know if its just the tt1 talex or all talexs but ive found that its marking mobile camera locations 50-200 yds after the location and then when you go back up that road its a further 200 yds past the location point but by the end of it the database is saying the mobile site is 2 positions and not the one it is.. Found a couple more locations with the wrong speed limits which ive emailed them about and also mentioned to them this mobile camera location how in accurate it is and that i feel its a ploy to get us caught. However the fixed speed cameras and redlight camera's it seems to be spot on.

Thanks for that info, and for the link - I've been using the PGW dbase for a while now, but always good to see what else is out there. I find the accuracy pretty good on fixed cameras, but it would be nice for it to only alert you for GATSO on your side of the road, but I understand that the dbase and POI info isn't that accurate.

Still pondering this talextt purchase....

im awaiting a reply from talex about the mobile camera locations as seriously this could cause a lose of licence if you were a few miles over the limit and there were mobile camera vans at the locations not properly marked or had incorrect speed limits on the device (glad i take note of speed limits).

Reember though that it is a device to warn you - It is not intended to replace the skills of a driver.

You are quite correct in saying that it should be correct, my usual journey's have been accurate so far.

just wondering stu of the actual talex is more reliable than the tt1 version???

In theory they use the same database.

I can't remember the last time I had a missed camera or anything on mine.

Talex have said there is a problem with the overlay on tomtom 1 so it might explain the problems im having with mobile traps, however i will say again fixed ones seem to be spot on. on a long drive to cambridge tomorrow so will try it in another part of the country too ;)

  • 1 month later...

I've been looking at this as my talex lite sub runs out in less than a month.

Have emailed them twice recently and not received a reply  so not a happy bunny.

I even asked them if the talextt is their product as there is no mention on their website about it, but again no reply :thumbdwn: .

Is anyone using this on a tomtom one v2 with success?

Not that happy either - decided to give it a try, for use on my TT One v1. First of all the program wouldn't connect to download the initial setup and database. No response from them about that. Waited a couple of days and then it worked.

However, can't see anything different on the TomTom now! Should there be an options icon, or anything to indicate its existence on the device? And of course, it's not displaying camera locations

At the moment, 0/10 for this one :thumbdwn:

Oh, pants then :( .

I had hoped that I could ditch the talex when I got my tomtom but the built in speed camera warnings on that are awful compared to talex and even trying the pocket gps databases with all the seperate voices etc is still not a patch due to the directional issue!

hope this gets sorted in the next few weeks as I'm really confused about what to do for renewal and don't fancy paying twice.

At the moment, it would seem they don't want to know. I'm already looking into other options, but agree with you on the 'single box' solution.

But if I do end up sorting anything else, I'll be pursuing them for the

Wardy, How did you manage to purchase it for

so is there any other options for getting speed traps on to the TTone?

ive got one myself, and before that i uploaded a POI type programme for speed traps onto my old tomtom 3. but it got nicked out of a friends car, so i got the TTone instead. havent found anything similar since :(

I don't think the Pocket GPS one is free any more Col if you mean that one.

But available to download if you take out a months suscription whch is only a couple of quid :)

works fine on mine, turn it off, take out the memory card and reinsert the card. turn it on and it should say talex overlay active. If not its not working. Also when you browse the map you will not see the speed trap locations, however when you drive towards one it will appear on screen. I wasnt to happy in the beginning, but the problems seem to have been iron out my end.

So how much did you pay for yours smstext?

See my post above - seems they've changed it?!

update for anyone who's interested.

I found a link to purchase a "email version" of talextt here :The Drivers Club

(mods remove if this isn't allowed  ) and paid

nice one, the latest update seems to be much better and they did admit there was a problem a couple of updates ago, im happy with it and its ideal for me at work as my company doesnt like speed trap detectors in its vehicles but dont mind sat navs  so best of both worlds. ;)

Well after using this overlay for a few days now I can confirm that in my humble opinion this overlay is the biggest pile of :toilet: I have ever used :thumbdwn: :( .

It's had the latest updates yet it still positions the camera sites completely wrong!

I tested it through a zone that has a 50mph gatso followed by 2 red light cameras and it completely missed the red lights till I was way past them, didn't pinpoint the gatso correctly and most annoyingly of all constantly tells me to "reduce speed" (:finger: ) for mobile sites - a feature that can be disabled by using camera only mode on the proper talex unit. This is really poor as the mobile sites are shown about half a mile past the actual site used so all the way after I'm in the clear it's bugging me.

I think I'm gonna write off my

I've given up trying to get it running at all TBH! :thumbdwn:

Thing is, I don't mind a few problems with things, but to be just ignored - seems I'm not the only one either :finger:

Has put me off Talex as a whole really; I was using this as a stop gap before their new model came out. Think I'll be re-assessing competitors now...

Currently having to re-install tomtom and all extras as the bootup was also extremely slow after installing (and deleting) the flipping overlay
