Shall I do an Oil change

Featured Replies

Wotcha every1, I've reached 5k:D miles in my Fabia vRS SE, some1 said I should do an oil change (I got it May this year )..

What do you advise

cheers every1 :)

Probably a bit of overkill.

Do mine at 8 to 9k.

To some extent it depends on whether it is a 'long term investment' or if you are going to change within 2 / 3 years.

And ours is a 'long term investment' BTW.

If you were going to do an early oil change, it would have been best done at around 2K miles - maybe a bit late now.

It's certainly not necessary but I doubt it would any harm. Your first service will be at 10k or one year, so 8 to 9k would be a little too late.

TBH probably not really worth it IMHO.

as I've previously said, all my cars have had oil changes every 5000 miles, from a

I guess the big question is really why are you thinking of doing it? If you do a lot of track days, it's probably worthwhile changing it more often, but just for normal driving about stick to the Skoda schedule.... :D

Chris

the more often you change the oil, the better. However there comes a point where 'obsession' takes over and where the increase in positive is just a fraction of the hassle you have to go through and is no longer justifiable

Early cars used to need regular oil changes, because oil quality was low, because the oil got dirty really quick, or because the car was being pushed hard and hence the oil was heated to extreme temperatures, causing it to degrade faster when compared to normal driving.

if you have the time, energy and money to flush, dispose, refill, source spares, why not

oil and filter is

I would have changed the oil at 1k then left it to the 10k for the next one.

We run a few motorbikes and the first thing we do when they are new is drop the synthetic oil they come filled with and put the cheapest mineral oil in we can find and give them a few full throttle runs. THen drop the oil and fill with a semi synthetic motul oil for a few 100 miles. This runs the tight engine in hard and beads the rings in nicely. They tend not to last as long before a rebuild but they give so much more power. ;)

I think the reason the fabia takes so long to run in ( i think mine is just run in fine at 40k ;)) is because of the oil they put in them. An engine wont run in a fast with a synthetic oil as they used to do with the old mineral stuff.

I think at the end of the day the car will be fine if u stick to ther service schedule. but it cant hurt anything to change it early and when i do mine i feel like the car runs better and have a great sense of achievement
