I personally can't believe it is a brake fade - I have absolutely caned those brakes from extremely high speeds several times and didnt get any fade - this was more like no brakes or whatever. Those brakes were excellent so it's all a little weird.

Will see how it goes :)

Could they have been too hot, maybe the fluid and not the mechanics.. I have before trusted my brakes and time after time they have performed well, but just occasionally you push the stop pedal when you need to and you feel as though the pedal is just about to go through the floor....

Anyway, i am sure you will sort and glad to hear all were ok...take care..;)

Not sure - but it's always possible I suppose :)

As you say though, main thing is everyone was ok. Hope the car won't be written off, I reckon cost of fixing it is gonna be quite a bit :(

Got lucky in the sense that the main airbags did not deploy at least :)

I hope noones been messing with your brakes. A friend who used to have a BMW had two tyres slashed enough to give him two blow outs and cause a crash, but not enough for them to deflate and be noticeable.

no GAP insurance, car is > 1 year old?

If a fault is found then in a way it would be a nightmare but it depends on what it is. Some finance remaining. If it is written off then there are still many options. Walking away with nothing is not an option in that I need a car for my job, so that would be a nightmare for me. I live 50 miles from work...

All finance comes with GAP these days as standard. If Skoda finance, then definitely has it.

This would then effectively mean you walk away with nothing to owe, but have to get a new car.

This is what happened to my sis-in-law when a lorry reduced her Scenic to only the front seats! Litterally, only that section was left of the chassis! The engine bay, and rear of the B pillar were 250yrds down the carriageway!

Would be amazed if that had happened, I've not been at home much, and the kids that could potentially have been involved in something like that would have been well asleep by then :)

Will find out soon though :D

I'm pretty sure you'll find that GAP insurance is an optional extra mate. Sales staff earn bonus for selling it, much like the Silver Seal treatments.

GAP Insurance

If your Škoda is stolen or written off through an accident GAP Insurance will cover the difference between the amount paid by your motor insurer and either the outstanding balance of your finance agreement or the cash purchase price paid if your vehicle is stolen or written off.

Features and Benefits

Around 315,000 vehicles are stolen every year, which is equivalent to one every 85 seconds (source - Car Theft Index 2003).

If this did happen, or if your vehicle was written off as the result of an accident, your insurance company will generally offer you a total loss payment based on the market value of your vehicle at that time. This value could be significantly less than either the cash price of the vehicle or the outstanding balance of an existing finance agreement.

You might not realise just how much a total loss can affect your own finances even with your vehicle being comprehensively insured. Now you can take out GAP Insurance to help protect your investment.

How it Works

If your vehicle is written off through accidental damage, fire or theft, there are two types of GAP Insurance cover available to you:

GAP (Shortfall Protection)

This covers the difference between the amount paid by your insurance company and the balance of the outstanding finance agreement, up to a maximum of

Wasnt even offered at the time - so pretty sure I havent got it ;)

I don't like your avartar Stu :(

I thought I was due a change - what would you prefer to see?

You're a fine one to talk!! Mr P looks like he's about to do a bank job armed with a rifle and your wooly hat!!! :P

Lol! let me find you a suitable one :D ........

I thought I was due a change

Yup, didn't your Mum tell you it's rude to point.

WW

When did you last have brake fluid changed, was it to correct spec - bearing in mind extra demands from higher performance, was Thursday abnormally hot ??............

But, TBH, from what you say it sounds like a complete sudden failure (servo, piston....)

Sad to read about this WW, after all the engine issues being sorted. Hopefully it'll be a few panels and a bit of a polish to see it as-new.

Butt's of Bawtry seem to have all (well lots) of the panel and accessory prices in their catalogue. If you wanted to pice things up yourself...

J.

Hope it all works out ok for you.

Will have to wait for the car to be released to the insurance company first - gonna try to give them a buzz early in the morning Monday to see what the situation is.

Glad no one was injured

I've always had it included in my last 4 cars.

*update*

Car is still under police checks, officer in charge needs to release it apparently so a message has been left for him to get in touch.

Should get a car for up to two weeks, which is perfect as I need a car for this week to allow me to clear out more of my house and meet the people I said I would meet :P plus make my travel arrangements to Holland in the near future :)

Insurance company appears to be friendly so far and I've got a dedicated person assigned to the case who seemed helpful enough too :) Only catch is that they cant move the vehicle until the police are done, and that makes things a little tricky.

I am keen to get my stuff out of the vehicle before the end of the week so I am able to use my satnav and set that up as handsfree - I refuse to drive without it - so that will be a life saver.

Hope things works out relatively smoothly from there on :)

Some proress in the right direction at least.

Another quick update, Enterprise just called and they'll be picking me up between 1200 and 1300 today. I've requested a derv due to mileage I reckon I'll be doing. Probably gonna be a Yaris but that's cool, just need a car and derv would be great as I need to do a fair bit of mileage this week :)

Once I've got the car I can then try to gain access to my car to get the bits out assuming that is allowed :)

Good to hear mate

Keep us all updated...

Steve

Sounding promising so far. :)

Ok so I got a Daewoo Matiz petrol instead - not quite what I had in mind as I asked for a diesel, but still -

Got the car at any rate so I'm mobile again

Needs a little revving but it is a decent A-B vehicle, it has aircon, so can't complain :)

Just need to chase up the release of the vehicle soon :)
