Car crash

Featured Replies

Well I suppose it had to happen statistically...

Driving along minding my own business, driving at about 65ish, yes I know that sounds low for those who know me ;) but it was busy, and I was in no rush.

In lane 2 on the A34, just past Didcot, going towards Newbury direction just before the layby. Lady in front in a Blue A6 applies the brakes (gently, nothing weird). I proceed to do the same, as per normal. Car doesnt slow. Plonk pedal down hard (brake light is on, it's the right pedal, witness behind me saw brake light on too).

Hit the car in front, I swerve as much as possible to avoid ploughing in (kid in the back, didnt want to cause unnecessary harm obviously). Hit the gravel and some of the central reservation bar. Front tyre is shredded at this point. Car out of gear, side airbags (only) go off. Witness stops too.

The car will be checked out by the police as I felt something was wrong - I was not in 'crazy nutter mode', not speeding, just making my way. Fortunately no one was hurt and a witness was there. I had not drunk alcohol (checked 0%) or done drugs (dont do that anyway) and the only medicine I've had was some ibuprofen 200mg tablet yesterday evening. Hardly likely to impact me 15+ hours later.

Handsfree phone (but wasn't on a call), music on normal volumes, wasnt distracted, just wouldnt slow.

It is a bit surreal, but everyone was fine which is the main thing. Looking distinctly likely it will be a write off though based on recent experiences with costing of panels/paint etc. If nothing is found with the vehicle I may get the 'careless driving' thing thrown my way, although I can (and have) opted for the alternative which would be a driving course. Quite happy to go on one, I've been trying to make time for it anyway and if it happens to go that way then I'll get the time out of work :P

Spoke to the person I hit just now to re-assure her (her husband in this case I spoke to) that insurance docs are all good, what is happening with my car, and that I was glad they were ok. If my car is a write-off, which imho is likely, I just hope I can buy it back to salvage the good stuff off it.

Guess I'll have to bring the Rover 100 back on the road :thumbdwn:

Sounds like you had a lucky escape, and thankfully no one was injured.

I assume you have 'all mods declared' insurance, otherwise it could get sticky.

The car will be checked out by the police as I felt something was wrong

Hard luck - glad to hear your ok

I think i would feel something was up if I was in an accident  - You have a thing for blue cars dont you?

Sorry to hear it mate :(, at least everyone is ok:).

Oh No - you must be :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

At least you or anyone else wasn't hurt

Bad luck running in threes with Fabia vRS at the moment.

Think I'll park up.

Best of luck getting it sorted mate.

Just hope its done asap for you mate.

Like you said main thing is that no one was hurt

The thing with Stu's car could be explained by me driving stupidly/badly/carelessly.

This time I wasn't and I was not speeding etc etc - I want to know what went wrong as I have a witness that saw my brake light come on, but the car didnt appear to slow.

Glad everyone was ok, and yes, all mods are fully declared :)

Should be fine then -

Will you be getting another Fabia and keeping the parts - or breaking on here and getting an Octy??

Sorry to hear that mate. Had the brakes been working up to that point, or hadn't you needed to use them? Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it and you'll find out what caused it.....

Still, as I always say the cars did their jobs (and can be repaired) and no-one was hurt :D

IF it is a write off I'll probably end up getting the Rover 100 back on the road. My financial situation is pretty cr*p at best right now. Assuming I get some money back if it is a write off and I cant buy back what's remaining, I will pretty much be stuffed. I dont need a big car, just need one that allows me to get to where I want at good fuel economy etc.

That is the one thing that would kill me on the Rover - fuel economy would suck :(

Keep yer chin up mate. As I said on the phone earlier, if I can help at all you know where I am.

Thanks, appreciate that :)

I don't know what to say really other than what's already been said before, feel for you mate :(

Unlucky mate :(

Glad to see no one was hurt, seems to be spate of accidents recently. Hope you get everything sorted, and that you're up and running again soon.

sorry to hear it mate. at least you reacted quick enough to avoid a big accident

I feel privileged now that some twonk in Exmouth clipped my wingmirror whilst I was in work. I feel somewhat well off with the small black mark on my casing compared to how some furbies have ended up recently.

bad luck WW, yours was one of the cars on here that i'd have like to seen (been in) but now looks like that wont happen :(

At least everyones ok, hows the damage to the audi?

Reckon the audi has the rear bumper, light unit on the right, possibly side of that car was scraped, don't know.

It was surreal as I blindly trust the cars ability to slow down (have been able to rely on that for 71k) so I still don't understand what happened. I was not driving in a silly manner and was relaxed but alert. Gladly the avoiding action was duly noted by the witness, the car I hit and the police, and it was mentioned that based on how things had been described to them I probably did the best thing under the circumstances :)

Doesn't sort out the problem with the car as such, but I'll give the insurance broker a buzz tomorrow (they were closed) and get them to sort out the rest. Worked for Hayley that way too, and they are good, so will see how it works out.

If any strange findings are confirmed by the police regarding the vehicle then I will probably post something here as it may help someone in the future. If not, then I have no idea what happened, which to me is in many ways worse, as I was braking :(

I am quite shocked at the amount of furbys been written off latley. makes me want to put mine in the garage and just drive the golf.

Hope everything goes well for you mate regarding insurance etc.
