Car crash

Is it possible you triggered the ABS?

the only minor collision ive had in my car was due to the abs kicking in unneccesaraly, it reduced the braking power to pretty much nothing because it took a few seconds to sort itself out

Sorry to hear about your accident mate.

There does seem to be a lot of accidents laterly with the furbys

I've been trying to drive moderately slow on mine as I have only just had it for a week so still running it in. However a couple days back I had a problem braking as I am still getting used to the pedals and sensitivity of the brakes (had a corsa previously and the braking is quite different firm). Anyway had to brake quite hard on a approach to traffic lights as it was a 50 road and because of the extra power I am now in control of (corsa was 1.2) which I am not used to yet - it was a close call! nearly went up the back of transit van...

That is a nightmare glad to hear everyone involved was ok. :(

:(

sorry to hear that.. least yous got out ok.. hope inurance gets the finger out quick and pays out...

Sorry to hear your news.

Sorry to hear about this, and very glad everyone's okay.

Glad everyone involved is OK, My Fabia brakes did the same one night, ABS issue on wet roads, thankfully it just got round the corner. It did appear on diagnostics and I'm sure the replaced the ABS block, I'll try and dig out the paperwork.

Sorry to hear this

I've had a couple of near misses when the ABS has triggered too- the braking power reduces and you feel like you're flying forward. Even if the ABS kicked in from a "temporary" cause (eg. wet manhole cover) it doesn't seem to switch off again even when the cause has gone.

Do they all do this, or is it a fault?

Thanks all for the comments

Roads were dry, speeds were too, and I'm kinda at a loss as to what happened. I braked and there didnt appear to be a slowdown.

The car has been taken to get investigated as I felt something was wrong. Spoke with Norwich Union this morning (and yes, all mods are on there, including stupid stuff like the handsfree kit even) - so that should be good.

The annoying thing is the courtesy car and/or hire car situation, both for myself and the other party involved. It has been a fairly friendly interaction with them and I sincerely hope they get everything sorted smoothly. One of those things. Given them the details and visa versa.

Just got to wait till Monday now to get things resolved - I need to get to the police station somehow to produce some documents etc, that will be a little tricky but I'll figure something out.

NU guy said that as the car is quite new (05) they weren't likely to just write it off. I am not so sure based on a very quick calculation of cost. Gonna have to plan on getting to NL from my place and get a hire car in Holland I suppose. Oh the joy..

Hopefully it can and will get repaired, as the engine ran without ECU light I am assuming the FMIC / turbo wasnt damaged which would mean there is a chance it could be repaired with a bunch of panels and lights etc. Will see...

Oh no, your poor lovely car :(

Sorry to hear it and glad you and everyone else are ok. I'm sure it will soon be sorted but no doubt it's a complete bummer at the moment.

Fingers crossed mate, fingers crossed...

:grouphug: :)

Sorry to hear about it. Glad everyone is ok though.

bad news mate, glad your ok though.

that's bad, glad you're ok though!

very strange about the car?

bummer :thumbdwn: hope everything works out ok

Wiebo, I doubt it'll be a write off.

When I had my accident back in dec 04, the car was over a year old (so admittedly a year less old than yours in relation to the RTA date), but it was only a class D write off - or whatever the financial write off class is.

They calculated the repair costs and due to the car body's structural damage, it would have basically been "procure new shell, put interior fittings and engine from old car into new car". The surprising thing was that it was only about

Cheers - dont think it is worth picking me up for that as my foot still kills from Sunday's events + walk into town & back just now.

Fingers crossed :)

Gutted for you mate. Here I am in a tiny Cario inet cafe, and I hear this just before we're supposed to meet up soon in the UK.

Told you about my little run-in. For political reasons (the guy who deliberately rammed his shiny new H3 into me is a V-VIP in Bahrain) wont be publishing details on Brisk, but needless to say, I am not happy about a deliberately caused long series of deep scratches on my passnger door.

Enough said.

Cheers Bas

Some pics added (not great quality but you can see enough).

Didnt take pic of side airbags going off, but they did...

Didnt post the other car's pic I took but mainly has right hand side rear light cluster damaged, plus surrounding stuff. That can be repaired but will cost a bit ;)

Showed insurance paperwork & paper license bit to the police today (the latter was not 100% needed but I thought I might as well bring it along for good measure). Will find out on Monday what the situation is :)

Doesn't look so bad. :) Sure it will need a few new parts, but I doubt very much if it is a write-off.

It looks like the driver side paint work is damaged but hopefully, hopefully not pushed in so may not have to replace panels there. The front is pretty much replace wings both sides, bonnet, bumper. IF the only under-bonnet damage is the xenons, water reservoir and whatever is at that side, things shouldnt be too bad. But then you've got the side airbags so that means new seat covers at least I guess.

Hope they find what went wrong too though, far more concerned about that ;)

Assuming you have on finance, then the GAP insurance should fill any loss between value and outstanding finance. At worst you'll walk away with nothing.

Glad everyone's OK.

If the car is found to be faulty, you'll need to identify who worked on the car, and affected components as your insurance will want to pass on the losses of the 3rd party and yours to them!

no GAP insurance, car is > 1 year old?

If a fault is found then in a way it would be a nightmare but it depends on what it is. Some finance remaining. If it is written off then there are still many options. Walking away with nothing is not an option in that I need a car for my job, so that would be a nightmare for me. I live 50 miles from work...
