*update*

I am keen to get my stuff out of the vehicle before the end of the week so I am able to use my satnav and set that up as handsfree - I refuse to drive without it -

no handsfree that the satnav provides ;) - I have a car kit as well but as the car is at least out of service for a bit, I'd like to have handsfree :)

Sorry to hear about it mate, give me a shout if you need a hand with anything. is the car over at culham then or havent they said where its being held?

Just got a registered letter from the recovery company that the police used - after a call or so I then went to them to pic up the rear parcel shelf (which has a storage thing under it with loads of stuff in there), the sat nav, and a few other minor bits and pieces I felt could do with removal (chocolate biscuits for example :D ).

Not had much time to mess about as the guy had to wait but basically the driver side is scraped rather nicely, it might be repairable but the front panel by the wheel looks like it could do with replacing. Alloy on that side is truly shot, don't think that could be repaired :(

Gonna chase up after the insurance company a bit later on, to get the rest moving along, and will try to find out if the police officer in charge will let me know if anything was wrong with the vehicle or not.

Another update :P

Spoke with insurance, they're gonna arrange the car to get picked up later on today so that's good, and repairer is in Abingdon. I think it's the same place that fixed up my Rover 100 but will double check. A note has been put on the account regarding my trip to Holland so that will help :)

Fingers crossed it is a repair rather than write-off now :)

fingers crossed here too mate - hope to catch you on the phone later on - I'm here outside Reading for about 2 weeks as you know...

Cheers

Bas

welcome to sunny blighty Bas :)

and hope to hear some good news Weibo :)

hope i spelt it right :o

brilliant news, has the cops said anymore yet? which repairers you being repaired at?

Repairers in Abingdon, will try to catch up with insurance again tomorrow as I forgot to take the full name down.

Btw - if anyone needs to or fancies purchasing a small car, buy a Kia Picanto or something like that. Avoid the Daewoo (now rebadged Chevrolet) Matiz. I've got less than 600 miles done on it by me, and the CEL light just came on on the way back from Basil's.

@bengie - soooo close ;) got all the right letters though ;)

I can't believe I've already broken the hire car - shuddering over 60mph suggests a lack of wheel balancing or tyre pressures that are wrong, and the CEL light suggests I need to find out what's up with it sharpish. Think I may just check the manual, then check oil and water, and if I dont spot anything obvious they'll be swapping this thing for a car :P

Ah the "midas" touch ;) If the insurance company are picking up the tab, you may have a case for an "equivalent" car to your own - Enterprise charge about 20 quid a day for a Focus-size car I think and about

Well they are going to have to provide me with a car that isnt broken, and this one is :P - plus I didnt get the Yaris I was promised which sucks too.

Still, will have a call with them tomorrow, I'm sure they'll sort something out hehe ;)

Glad everyone OK. There was a thread a while ago about brakes not seeming to work. Nothing really came of it, but for my two pennorth it struck a chord.

Brakes pressed, pedal seemed OK, but car did not slow. Quite frightening and only happened on occasion - no link with speed; sometimes fast, sometimes in traffic.. Then, by accident, found that the "box" with all the vacuum pipes had a broken clip. Put two strong springs around to hold it together and have not had a problem since. I really don't know what the box does - it is shown in Haynes, but no explanation, except that there is a pipe from the braking system. Does anybody know whether this could affect the brakes, or is it a coincidence?

I had the misfortune to be sentenced to a DaePoo Matiz loan car once. Once was enough.

To make matters worse it was the 'Extra Cool' special edition - Feck all cool about getting out of one of those I can assure you.

Yeah this is an 'SE' - dunno if that means it breaks down quicker :( It's shocking though, considering this is supposed to be a small but 'ok' kinda car. It's not even cheap either new IIRC

Thanks for the PM info as well Stu ;)

SE=Special Edition specially designed for breakdowns in mind

I had an incident to yesterday with the brakes, caught a man hole cover and the abs going mental even after we had clearly gone past the cover. the only thing to stop it was to quickly remove foot from brake and re apply. this all to as we approched a roundabout, dont like the abs on this car after feeling the abs on others.

I can't believe that people seriously think they're getting a Chevrolet when they buy a Daewoo!

A bit like people thinking they're getting an Audi when they buy a Skoda ;)

Chris

Or even think you're getting a Jaguar when you buy a Ford :P ;)

At least with a Ford they circle the problem for you. ;)

Well IMHO Chevrolet is less of a premium brand then Daewoo in the UK at least.

I've driven some Chevrolets in the US of A and frankly unless you go pretty high up in the range, they are sh!te. Welding is awful, visible, and panel gaps of probably half an inch aren't that strange to come across.

Handling is awful, brakes and engine too.

Only once I upgraded to a 3.2 V6 with a sporty car was there a feeling it would go round corners and perform a bit. My Fabia vRS would have mullered it, and that includes on top speed

Really bad luck with the accident, glad noone was hurt.

S'funny, I took my glove box off last night to have a tinker with the fan and lo and behold, on the fan casing four rings staring back at me... :D

I got the same reviewing my old Fabia's sump - as it pointed toward the sky on a dark part of North Wales back in 2004.
