Anyone, ie Stu, know what sort of warranty issues one would face if the 9mm thingy was fitted? None of these Skoda garages are going to fit it and what sort of warranty issue that would have.

As for any modification, you'll potentially invalidate the warranty on any part of the car which could have been affected by the modification. Hence why people are advised to keep the original parts.

My dealer said we cannot fit the gasket from the earlier models but there is nothing to stop you doing it (Wink Wink). I have had a service done since I fitted the smaller diametre one and no problems, If I had a warranty claim I would swop back before taking the car in just in case.

I've just fitted the 9mm gasket in position 6 and it totally works !

No hesitation at all. I should have done this 6 month ago. Thanks for the clear instructions.

I will check the MPG over the next few weeks.

The rev range is now really smooth, no need to avoid 1500-2000 rpm anymore.

It's my perception that the acceleration is slightly worse (not as aggressive as before), but overall I'm happy to lose the stutter.

With the right the tools the job was very easy and took about 10 mins.

Another satisfied member - good news.

Has anybody has any problems getting the bolts at position 11 off? I have just tried but have had to give up, they almost seem seized on!

Yeah, pretty sure (this is where I could look stupid) - it's anti-clockwise isn't it? Might have to try some WD40 on it.

Correction to my previous message:

I actually replaced the gasket at position 11 (to the right of the EGR valve, not under it) with a 9mm one (from Grasmere Skoda ~

A torx bit and a ratchet is easier than an Allen key, you can get a lot more torque on the bolts and it usually means less skin off the knuckles.

Thanks Stu for the info on the engine stutter! really clear and looks pretty straight forward to do, well for our works mechanic anyway!! . My special edition has it quite bad.

ok folks..i've got the 'stutter' on my vrs se. I'm a qualified aircraft engineer, but leave my cars to the dealers !! What i've read about putting the 9mm gasket in seems pretty simple, but are the bolts 'left hand thread' and do they need to be 'torqued', or is it simply a matter of removing the original, and replacing with the new one?

I had the same problem on my 06 plate PD 100 Fabia. Got some good advice on this forum. In conclusion:

-The 9mm gasket seems to have fixed the problem (6 days at time of posting - no stuttering).

-Process to install is exactly the same as described for the PD 130.

-Stu was correct. My engine code is AXR (it is in front of the service record for anyone reading this who didn't know already).

-The hole in the original gasket from my car is 32mm (ish) rather than 25.

I probably own the highest mileage Fabia VRS with a BLT engine :(

The car is ABSOLUTELY STANDARD and has been thoroughly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's requirement.

I've done 75000 miles on an early 2006 model. It suffered with the stutter at about 45000 miles and had the gasket replaced by Wings Of Peterborough (but only after i'd looked on here and TOLD THEM what was wrong with it!!!!). I thought that this would be the end of my woes... alas not!

The car has always suffered with a lumpy idle and what I regard as poor performance. There has always been large soot and smoke emissions from the exhaust and what I regard as poor acceleration. The response to accelerator inputs was also poor. I've also noticed a strange high pitched whistle from the turbo under heavy engine loads.

At 73000 miles Engine Management warning light came on. Car taken to Vindis in Cambridge. EGR valve itself found faulty. and was replaced, along with gasket (modified). Car no better.

Turbo boost pressure control system was analysed and found to be faulty. It seems that this control system had the turbo continuously performing at 'overboost' and this (I think!) has lead to failure of the turbo itself, resulting in the funny high-pitched noise under load.

So, at 74000 miles I've had EGR gasket & valve replaced, turbo boost control system replaced and a new turbo. I estimate repairs to total

hmmmm .... 74,000miles is a lot of miles for a turbo if you read some of the posts on here! Especially if it has been consistently over boosting.

Sounds to me like you've been unlucky and I don't necessarily think your faults are representative of those suffered by all / a majority of owners. That's not to say it isn't obviously incredibly frustrating when your vehicle goes wrong of course.

75k in 18 months is amazing! what do you do for a living? not many taxis do that sort of milage per year.

Ahh you use your car for a driving school.

That is such a stress full job hats off to you, 75k in a driving school car is worth double in a normal car so your vRS has been brilliant.

I'm going to pull my finger out and have a go at fitting the 9mm part, although I'm a little nervous about undoing bolts and things on my car:eek:

I'm hoping that a bog standard allen key will do the job and I'm keeping everything corssed that I don't do soomething stupid like drop something down into the engine bay!:cool:

Anyway, I ordered a couple of gaskets weeks ago but haven't got around to fitting them yet. The cars in for a service in a couple of days, so I'll fit them after that.

yeh, I did wonder if you ever got round to doing your's!!!! No worries though, just let me know how you get on.

I shall try and order the parts tomorrow, but you might get round to doing it before me. I shall only order one gasket as I don't fancy my chances of doing the swap at 'position 6' though!

My dealer has the part in stock so I shall try to collect tomorrow and fit asap.
