Good summary on the site Stu ... cheers!

Will there be any probs re warranties or mot's if you fix the 9mm part yourself?

Excellent summary,well done and thanks

They do not test for Euro compliance during an MOT just the smoke test AFAIK.

It might potentially have a warranty issue if it were found but if it did it would only be on the affected parts. Remember it was the initial fix oferred bySUK.

No drawbacks really then. If that's the case I wonder if it is worth me having at go at installing the 9mm part even though I currently feel 'unaffected'. Perhaps, in my mind, my car would feel 'even better'!?!?!?

I agree with you, I don't notice the stutter under normal driving. But I'm tempted to fit the 9mm gasket and see what happens. Might pop down to the local VW garage tomorrow to order the part.

Cool. Let me know what you think if you get this done pretty soon then!

Shall keep you informed! :)

Does anybody have some actual pictures of what need replacing? (I've seen the diagram - thanks VRStu) I think i've found it, just not totally sure - don't want to end up taking the wrong bit apart.

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the help on the forums with the technical information and collating of data. I have a learned a lot about my vrs from your site!

No problems. I hope it helps, that's what it's there for.

is it the two visible bolts that need removing then?(nr the arrow)

It's stange though when you consider that the 'stutter' is so severe in some examples as to force the owner of the car to reject it, and others, like my Vrs which doesn't seem to suffer very much at all. Anybody any idea why there is this great disparity?

Yes; they're the ones. Access from underneath, 6mm Hex bolts IIRC. Easier if you remove the 4inch diameter black plastic air tube. Make sure engine is cold too.

Edit - It's ok, I've just answered my own question - only a few days until stutter free driving! :)

Thanks for this Stu

Just done the 'repair' but SKODA were meant to have already put a 14.5 mm one, as I'd taken it back to them, TBH the stutter didn't go away, I just drove round it more, but the MPG got caned. The one I took out was a 25mm one:confused:  I've kept it in case I get 'warrantee issues'

5 mile test revealed no stutter. a**e dyno estimates a 40 - 50% power increase:rofl:

I think the dealers always change the gasket at position 6, as this is closest to the valve but position 11 is easier for us and seems to work just fine, so I think it is normal to find a 25mm gasket.

If someone mentions the stutter are they meant to change the gasket? GFs mum went in yesterday and they told her it was a pick up point. Mentioned nothing about any form of fix?!

Hmmm, interesting. I had an 04 VRs which was perfect at all revs and I swapped it for the Ltd Edition VRs this April. Immediately I noticed that when accelerating off the over run between 2000 and 2500 rpm there is a momentary hesitation. I guess this is the "stutter" yes? I cannot drive the new car as smoothly as the old and it feels like I'm being really ham fisted with the accelerator.

Yep sounds like you have the affliction.

Your previous car would have had an ASZ engine and SE the BLT engine.

OK thanks. When it goes for a service I'll see if the dealership knows anything about this. Cheers.
