Fabia vRs strategic decision by Volkswagen Group

Featured Replies

Ok fella's let face it no one has defo's on the Fabia vRS what its going to be(engine size, body kit) and when its going to be realised, but did anyone think about this

Maybe Volkswagen Group is delaying the launch of the Fabia vRs so that it can establish its new VW Golf GT firmly and make it more common knowledge before the Fabia vRS.

Because i've been asking dealers/retailers and there throwing me off

There was at least a three year gap between the launch of the first Fabia and the vRS version. OK, the success of the Octavia vRS may have created a business case for the Fabia vRS that hadn't been there before.

I know in the run up to the current Octavia vRS there was all manner of debate and rumour over the engine. Some said it would be diesel only after the success of the Fabia, others said it would be both launched together while others said both a while apart. These weren't just internet rumours, the dealers were all equally confused. I wonder of Skoda is keeping a lid on information to try to reduce the misinformation that would surround what they released. I'm waiting for the rumours to say it'll be a 3dr with the engine from the Octavia vRS TDi.

The Golf GT idea is one I find difficult to agree with as the Golf is a bigger car and the price is that much higher. It's also rumoured in Autocar this week that VW might drop the GT's twincharger engine when the Mk6 Golf comes out.

My gut feeling is that Skoda will take their time to get a car with a good reputation right rather than rush to market with a relatively poor car that looses them the reputation and sales. Yes, they could be missing out on sales in the meantime but probably not as many as a poor car would loose them.

One of the reasons for a lack of info is the Fabia is the first car on the platform so we've not got a hot Ibiza or Polo to draw comaprisons with.

Saying that we are getting into the Autumn motor show season so Skoda may have a Fabia vRS concept coming soon. Or they might wait until after the estate is launched. Or they might even...

I agree.... The Golf GT has been around for a while now and judging by the numbers I see on my travels is already more than established

God I hope it's not a 3 door only though

it will not have a 170bhp TDi that is a certain, people who think it will have anything that puts it faster than the octavia is very wrong in my opinion(this has nothing to do with me owning an octavia i just think its part of their plan), the two cars have their places and will be priced and spec'd to fit rather than just go all out and see what happens, just like before :)

skoda is not a balls out manufacturer that is willing to make crazy models like some of the other manufactureres out there partly as they want to be seen as a more sophisticated and sensible option rather than gimmicks and that on top of the fact that they will be controlled from elsewhere due to where their parts and money comes from ;)

Agreed & that's also why I reckon a 3 door wont happen as SEAT has those covered

Interestingly speaking with Mr Keith of D M Keith the other day we were discussing my Fabia Vrs which he say's will start increasing in value now all the run out SE's have sold and because there will not be a New MK11 Vrs!. Not for a long while yet he recon's.

won't happen, the vRS isn't anything special in reality so will never appreciate sadly.

the new mini sold for more than retail when they first came out as they were very very fashionable but as soon as production increased and there more available that stopped.

very very few cars go up in value, the fabia vRS will never be one of them.

Oh shucks was going to trade it in for a DB9 next year. Oh well will have to work harder:thumbup:

You might be right, but your are one of the most negative people on this forum about anything Fabia.

Did a Fabia once steal your lunch money?

Can't you find something else to bitch about?

typical... was anyone actually bitching?

Well, we've gone to Decron 2

This is a warning - next it will be handbags in the car park :P

whats your problem? anytime anyone says anything that doesn't basically read as fabia's are teh bestest ever and they are slating the car!

i am not slating anything here i am simply being realistic mate, all carsa re placed where their manufacturers want them by spec/price/performance and advertising/image.

As i have said before but obviously your diesel tinted specs have filtered out i do not hate the fabia, i do not think its a bad car but what i am at the same time is realistic and I only object when people stand up and say the fabia be it tuned or standard can beat much mroe capable vehicles when if honest we all know it cannot. but your specs have probably also filtered out when i am this honest about the octavia aswell, i know both can be very capable cars but up against things like 300bhp+ evo/scooby/ferrari/porsche/AMG/M? then sorry but tehy can't unless tehy are very highly tuned and i have never yet seen a Fabia that could actually take on a vehicle of this sort when both drivers are in the same mindset and know the crack. even the peoples hero Jason try like he does cannot beat a decent petrol car as we have seena few times at trax and gti international as a diesel is not really intended for racing.

Decron you have met me, we have had a pint or two together yet you still don't see what i am saying. like many others you read what i say and take it as antagonistic and arguementative posts when in reailty they are simply honest, thats the main trouble with forums.

Oh me me, I hate fabia's. They are directly related to the growing downfall of this country.

Dont worry they flip over easily and I may have reduced numbers again :P

To be honest though, the TDi is not as fast on the spec sheet as the 200 petrol so it's a possibility they will use it.

Thing is, I don't want an octy, i prefer smaller cars but if there is not a decent engine in there they will loose a customer.

i can't see them using the 150 1.9 as its an old engine and i think somebody on here said they are going to phase it out, so this will leave them with the 2.0 140bhp or perhaps a smaller tdi that's specked up?

Would the 140 realy be any better than the one in there now? in some ways yes, but we shall have to see.

All the other manufacturers seem to be putting in high hp engines, vauxhall corsa for instance.....

Skoda will loose out if they don't make a cracking car this time.

but ehy put the 170TDi in the octaiva, i am expecting a 2.0 PD140 and if they do a petrol maybe(at the limit) the 1.8TFSi engine which would be excellent :D but would probably be either no petrol version again or a lesser petrol without a turbo.

Basically lads, im in ireland the Golf Gt has only started to take off here in the last few months.

But another thing to consider is that the new fabia is built using the same chassis, suspension as the old one.

Some of ye ahve good points but others are just childish

Just how much time is wasted on speculation, on this and other forums :P

There are so many small and quick cars to choose from these days, as the hot/warm shopping car is back in high numbers, that I also can't see Skoda going all out with a 200bhp car, or even a 170bhp car. I may be pleasantly suprised, but the choice of cars better in most ways then the Fabia grows weekly.

They will play safe, and keep with the practical yet exciting marketing that seems o work well for them. So I would expect 5 doors, and a mid range powerplant, as previously speculated - the 140 pd, and/or the 140 tsi unit.

The Fabia vRS we all know and love had a special place in the market when it came out, as it was one of the early performance diesels, but everyone has caught up, and overtaken Skoda in that department, so they are not even in the same playing field anymore with the new one, hence the delayed launch I presume. They will be assessing the market to see what best suits it I guess.

I guess the 2.0 Fsi n/a 150 bhp might be an option.

Anyway, for now, i'll look forward to my "old" Fabia coming back on the road first :)

They'd be a fool not to include a 2.0l in the line up ;)

Chris

I dont think the 150PS FSi will be in the vRS , as it is being phased out in the Octavia in favour of the 160PS TFSI unit , so it would make sense to standardise both Fabia and Octavia with the same engine (thats assuming they give it a petrol unit at all)

It was announced in last weeks autoexpress that the new Golf MkVI, will have VW's new 138BHP & 167BHP common rail diesel in them.

So more speculation will the new furby vRS have this or the last of the PD engines ? ( hopefully the remaining PD's will be in the new Dodge cars that are being sold here with the current VW PD engines )

how does the engine in a mk6 golf affect a fabia?

Oh me me, I hate fabia's. They are directly related to the growing downfall of this website.

How true ;)
