Fabia vRs strategic decision by Volkswagen Group

Featured Replies

I tentatively asked at the factory today and was told the early part of next year is the anticipated release time. Nothing could be said about specification.

I agree with Shifty.

Lots of Speculation and no real facts. Skoda will play it safe (as they always have done in the past) and put a 140 diesel in there.

There's no chance of a petrol Furby, it doesn't fit the profile. And I just can't see a 4.0L V8 diesel in there either, lets all be realistic like Benjwaldo.

The VW Group have always historically introduced the hot variations towards the end of a model's life span, in order to boost interest and sales at a time when customers are reluctant to spend their cash on a car that will be replaced in a couple of years.

VW and Audi have bucked the trend with the MKV golf and the A4 by having the hot models available straight after the newest model was announced. The reasons being that VW is still trying to push it's image upmarket and Audi are promoting themselves as a performance brand

Skoda don't seem to have cottoned on to this strategy yet though.

Ok, I don't really have anything to bring to this discussion, but macRS - you need to sort your grammar out:

"Because i've been asking dealers/retailers and there throwing me off"

Last week I was speaking to Skoda customer services about my VRS allloy wheels and I just happen to mention "is there any news of the new VRS" and was told "it'll be the middle of next year when it arrives as we have the new estate to launch first" then I asked about the spec "sorry we've no information about that"...Hmmm...

So MK2 VRS is on its way, middle of next year will do me fine as my VRS will be three years old then and a nice new red VRS will do fine thank you very much...:)

I'm almost ashamed to say that I've just ordered a Pug 207 GT for the Missus.

I wanted her to buy a Furby, and she would have done if the vRS was here (or at least in sight)

Still, not all bad news though, I've ordered myself an Octy vRS.

Come on Skoda, stop losing sales and let us know what's happening with the Fabai vRS!!!

Was just signing my life away on an Octavia vRS this morning and told the dealer that should they want to sell me a nice new Fabia vRS when it comes out that I'm more than willing for them to call me....

Cue the salesman's update on the Fabia vRS story at the moment. Apparently a number of UK bigwigs met earlier this week including the dealer principal/business manager (WTF they call him) from their franchise who was also stood there at the time. He told me that apparently it could be another 2 years before a vRS Fabia II arrives, if at all! Apparently the vRS accounted for about 20% of UK Fabia I sales, but elsewhere in Europe there is very little demand for it. As such Skoda are baulking at whether or not to actually produce a vRS as it's only us lot that want it apparently. He confirmed that a Sport would definitely be appearing but a vRS would be a long way off if at all...

Sorry guys if this is true, I don't need the space of the Octy so would have happily had another Fabia vRS if I could. 2 years time is when I'll be changing my car again though I expect so maybe next time?

BTW: If anybody is interested in buying a Fabia I vRS in Black Magic with xenons, sunroof and heated seats on a Sept 2005 55 plate for sensible money PM me. I'll put a proper add in the classifieds when I get a minute to join Freedom and take some photos.

Your dealer may well be telling the truth but that's pretty much what mine said a couple of years ago when I asked abouty the Octy II vRS. And what do you know, a few months later, launch details were made public.

He was trying to sell me a "standard Octy and it was in his interest to put me off waiting for the vRS.

Don't wish to tar your dealer with the same brush though ... I just hope he's wrong.

That's quite "shouty" for a Furby vRS. Discretion is the secret ingredient.

I'd already paid for the Octy so he had no reason to tell me porkies to sell me a more expensive car, although if I hadn't already paid for the car I'd have thought the same as you! ;)

MAC067 - I'm an evo subscriber and saw these pics a few months ago - I only hope they produce something even slightly resembling that S2000 concept! Like I said to my dealer - when / if it comes out give me a ring!

TBH the dealer is usually the last person to find anything official out anyway, we usually found out about a model when it landed on our doorstep. Then about 18 months after launch all the literature and training materials turn up.

I totally agree with Lummox, and that goes for all marques - at local dealer level the idea is to sell what you have in stock not what might be just round the corner. Operating this way allows the dealer to avoid the tasty situation of selling you the "latest" model today and then have to confront you next week about the "latest" model being an evolution of the one you have just bought. The motoring press and the importers know what is going to happen long before the local dealers, so you can only go on their "take" of the situation and if it might change your time of purchase then talk it through with your dealer - if he is not aware of the changes then best plan is to hold off a bit. Usually there are specific times in the motoring calender when "things happen" so be aware of when these periods are and if you don't mind buying the previous model - go for it if the price is right! I've delved deeply for information any time that I've bought new in UK - remember you might be an enthusiast but the salesman is only doing a job with only the current marque's or importer's information to go on.

They might as well not even make a new Fabia vRS.

The 1.9 TDI PD 105bhp on Skoda's homepage priced up in standard specification has a RRP

Unless Skoda take the Fabia 2 spec, lower it, put a bigger engine in, bigger alloys, different bumpers and boot spoiler. Then let you add any bells n whistles from the options list. That would keep the initial list price down making it at least look like a bargain that the original was.

Also don't Skoda need a road going equivalent of the S2000 in order for them to compete?

The VRS models have always been based on the mid spec cars with sporty extras added - The Octy II VRS has more in common with the Ambiente than the Elegance.

I'd bet on the Fabia II VRS being based on the 2 rather than the 3 so you are looking at adding the cost of the better engine and trim to a

No, I don't believe they do as the S2000 rules are different to the WRCar rules.

For sure the new Fabia RS will be more than the old one, but looking at the Fabia 3 price might not be accurate as that is much better specced than the old Fabia Elegance already (climate control, maxidot e.t.c)

As for dealers telling you there won't be a new RS, I don't believe them. It might not be the best selling model on a worldwide basis but then is the GTI the best selling Golf for example - I doubt it.

They'd only be turning away sales if they chose not to make it, and besides that it is also important for brand image. How many of you have bought an RS then gone on to buy a different model from the Skoda range?

Aahh my mistake... so they'll need a to produce a new Fabia vRS if they want to compete in the WRC...:D

Either way I've got my new hot hatch fix for now :D

that's what we (dealers) have been told, honest!

I'd like a Fabia vRS estate please

eh??

why on earth would us who work in dealerships tell you all that there isnt gonna be a vRS verson if it wasnt true?? beleive what you want to beleive then, but the simple fact remains IT AINT COMING IN 2008!

It defo wont be a 3dr:- Skoda Favorit, felicia, fabia, fabia 2 all 5dr only vehicles.

Skoda wouldnt make a 3dr shell - they are about standardising their model range, to make a 3dr shell would mean more expense.
