Fabia vRs strategic decision by Volkswagen Group

Featured Replies

won't happen, the vRS isn't anything special in reality so will never appreciate sadly.

the new mini sold for more than retail when they first came out as they were very very fashionable but as soon as production increased and there more available that stopped.

very very few cars go up in value, the fabia vRS will never be one of them:thumbdwn:

Hate to say it chap, but when i bought my furby vrs SE i was told it would be an investment by a few dealers, and lo & behold, found one on line, 2nd hand with 3700 on clock, asking price

Just spoken to my dealer and he has confirmed that they've just had a message in the Skoda intranet (internal internet) that there are no plans to launch a new Fabia 2 vRS! Shame - not sure now what to replace mine with next year.

That would surprise me hugely

The Skoda mail said that after looking at the logistics of producing the VRS they have decided it would not be practical to produce the car for 2008.

They are however releasing a Sport model, which is the basic car with a bodykit on it.

Well, I know I have said I will keep my Fabia vRS until I see the new one, but if that's the case, I won't have it longer than 4 years (which is Oct next year) then they are going to loose another customer for at least 3 years until my next car is that old and I fancy getting rid of it, so that would be Oct 2011.

I don'rt want a sodding 'sport' model either.

Ben

Sport is very..standard with the kit on.

Oh and different seats too....

Have Skoda UK confirmed that or are you looking at the Czech Sport spec?

This really is terrible news if they have decided not to launch a new Fabia vRS. The old one became something of a cult car and its shame there will not be anymore! I would suppose that the only option is to get a Skoda Fabia 2 1.9tdi (103bhp) put the body kit on it and the internal styling features then get the engine remapped by Superchips to produce about an extra 30bhp (availaible via a bluefin tuning box). I know this won't be a vRS but in terms of performance it will be quicker than the old one as it is a lot lighter and the styling might help with the image. Plus you could always find some vRS badges!!! It definitely won't be the same though.

Fabia vRS RIP:thumbdwn:.

Don't write it off just yet you defeatist :D

There won't be one THIS year... doesn't mean they won't make one in the future... especially if sales start dropping off ;)

i am on my third fabia vrs and they couldn't give me a mk 2,i will have to wait for the mk 3,if it comes, but the mk 2 vrs is looking like it may not happen at all,and after all that promise of petrol and derv burners that will be a shame:D

Skoda UK....!

(i work somewhere, where i will get to know before the public...!)

Dish the dirt then!

If they have any sense it will have the same interior as the Roomster Scout (The Czech sport does) and hopefully some nice wheels.

dont let them stick a silly engine in it! gve us a choice:) i mean over in CZ you could have a 1.2 to the 2.0 and 1.4 and 1.9 tdi on their sport! :(

Cant say too much, just keep your eyes peeled over xmas.

Im not just teasing either

I'd like a Fabia vRS estate please
i'll 2nd that one....
Ok fella's let face it no one has defo's on the Fabia vRS what its going to be(engine size, body kit) and when its going to be realised, but did anyone think about this

Maybe Volkswagen Group is delaying the launch of the Fabia vRs so that it can establish its new VW Golf GT firmly and make it more common knowledge before the Fabia vRS.

Because i've been asking dealers/retailers and there throwing me off

I have taken in my Fabia VRS in for a service recently and was disappointed by the new Fabia (I was given a gutless 1.4 16 v petrol as a courtesy car). The dealer is furious at the delay in the launch of a new VRS as the car has been so popular with them. Our local police use Skoda and may of the coppers run these as their everyday cars. Apparantly Skoda doesn't see the VRS model as a priority at the moment and wants to concentrate on the deadly dull "Derby and Joan" models. They said that they had a stampede when the last of the line blue leather equipped Fabia VRS models came in.

Yes the Octavia VRS is a lovely car but it is pushing 20K with extras, is big and even the 200bhp petrol turbo hasn't got that addictive kick in the back. Another thing I am told is that the new car, whenit arrives will have the 1.4 Twincharge petrol motor and not a brawny diesel.

My dealer is furious that Skoda has shelved (for now) a new VRS version of te Fabia. It is a very popular car with their customers (including many police who run Skoda's around my kneck of he woods) and there was a huge rush to buy the last of the line limited edition vehicles. It seems that Skoda want to concentrate on the "bread and butter" models. The new Fabia is terminally dull with only the 80 bhp 3 pot TDI being a little fun with a nice throaty engine note and decent pull.

The only choice one has is to buy an Octavia VRS which is as much bigger and less wieldy car and even the 200 bhp turbo doesn't have the kick of the Fabia VRS (it needs revving) and the diesel version has had its power band smoothd out so it's more progressive.

I have heard rumours of a new VRS with the 1.4 Twincharge engine in a few years time but it won't be the same as the little car we current Fabia VRS owners love so much.

Enjoy your current Fabia VRS as the new car, if it comes at all will not have the virtues that make the current car such a winner. It will probably have the 1.4 twincharge engine and will not have the huge trust of the high torque diesel.

No wonder the last limited edition VRS models flew out of my local dealers

 As an ex Fabia VRS owner who test drove a TSFI Octy VRS (and decided to buy one) I was amazed how similar it felt to my old Fabia VRS in terms of low down grunt..... The main reason I decided to go for one was because it was the first petrol engined car I'd driven that didn't require to be taken to the red line in order to make make progress :)

The Octy vRS TFSI isn't the only turbo petrol car like that now either ;)

Been to the dealer today to get some warranty work done on the vRS and asked 1 of the very helpful sales guys about the new vRS. The dealers are defiantly not happy about Skoda holding back the vRS as it accounts for a large part of there sales. Apparently its the UK and Germany that are screaming out for the new vRS fabia.

Couple of things he mentioned about what we might expect, flared wheel arches, a fabia vRS estate version, a choice of petrol and Diesel engines. He reckons there are 3 engines in contention, the 2.0 140 PS Diesel, the 1.4 twin charged 170 PS and a new 1.8 TFSI, the 1.4 twin charged 170 PS is very popular in Germany which may have a influence on the final decision.

There is also the subject of money the new fabia cant really break the 14k barrier as then it loses its unique ability to be a fun quality car at an amazing price and open up a larger list of alternatives. Its certainly going to be hard to get me out of my old Fabia vRS Skoda have some very large boots to fill!

Hallo There. I think that the reason that the delay in bringing the new Fabia VRS would be that any development would put the price up into the league of some quite talented rivals such as the MINI Cooper S and Vauxhall Corsa VXR.

I would like to see the new 143 Common rail VW engine put in this car. It would give the same performance as the 130 (more than adequate) with a bit more refinement. I know for one thing that the no current VRS owner will entertain a Sport model with only 105 BHP altough it could be chipped up.

I know that my Skoda dealer is annoyed that the Fabia VRS is delayed and the limited edition cars went within days. I think Skoda could build this car if te y wanted to as it is basically thsame floorplan as the old Fabia. The 1.4 Twincharge would be a good engine as well. I love my 130 TDI engine though as I like the diesel torque. I reckon current owners should write or email and if thre is enough demand maybe VW would reconsider.

One last thing it that it would not do to have a faster and better driving car than VW's own more expensive models like the Golf GT (although that car is considerably more expensive).

Interesting reading!

If there ever will be a Skoda Fabia vRS, I predict it will use the 1,4 TFSi petrol unit. I think that is a good thing!! The 1,4 unit has in its current form between 120 and 170 bhp, but is designed to make even more. I think the 1,8 and 2,0 engines will be to heavy in the nose of a Fabia, and handeling will suffer.

When it comes to diesel I hope they do not put any of the current dieselunits into a Fabia vRS, for the same reason - weight. The car should have a 1,6 TDI - something VAG do not have - yet.

A high output 1,6 TDI with 130 - 160 bhp should be possible. VAG has a new 2,0 TDI unit with 204 bhp in development, so why not?

I hope VAG will let Skoda make a new Fabia vRS. I would definitely save for one!:)
