Fiat punto 1.0

Featured Replies

Anybody know what the spark plug gap is supposed to be for this engine.

A friend has one that is performing badly and not idling well, so I figured I would check the obvious out first. It is on an L plate and I think the engine is 1.0L but could be wrong.

1.2l was the smallest of the Mk1 puntos I thought?

Just checked and they only list a 1.1 or 1.2...

Does anyone know the gaps for these as I can find the plug but not the gap :(

Ta

Plugs should come pre-gapped these days. Can't remember the last time I got a feeler gauge out...

Good job I didn't assume that with the plugs I just put in the 928 - they were pre-gapped, but way over the value recommended by the handbook.

Edit: try 0.7mm (28 thou) as a start.

How can you pre-gap a plug that fits multiple vehicles?

The ones i used in a fiesta a few months ago needed opening up by a bit.

Browsing around the Fiat forum looks like 0.8mm would be more likely.

If it still runs poorly check the timing.. the belts can jump on these very easily.. ive seen it on a mates.... that was after his local stealer charged him for a new ECU and air mass meter

Thanks Colin,

I'll check the really simple stuff first, but the thing couldn't even keep 55 on the motorway so may well have to check that at some point too.

coil packs can go faulty as can plug leads , had the 1.1 FIRE engine in a Cinquecento , changed the leads on that

The engine would be 1.1 (1108cc), there was no 1.0 litre version. Spark plug gaps are 0.85-0.95mm (Fiat type 9GY55R or Champion RC9YCC).

That's huge, it must have a jolly powerful coil.

hence the reason i mentioned coil packs going faulty

some of the Fords have gaps as big as 1.3mm , but we change coil packs all the time on them
