hi everyone,

my name is dan, i live in wichester and i am just about to go down to the dealer and get my new car! its a black fabia vrs on a 55 plate. 24k miles on the clock. I paid

Hi mate, welcome to the forum. When was it registered?

With respect to the hesitation, as you've not had an older VRS and moved onto a newer one, you're much less likely to notice it. AND the fix for it isn't that bad either.

Price seems okay, could do a bit better and a bit worse. At the end of the day, if you're happy then it doesn't matter one bit! Happy driving!

post ressurection! lol

now owned the car for almost a month, i do have the stutter, which is annoying but i am living with it for now. not sure wether to bring it up with the dealership at next service or fix it myself, i am reasonably handy with a spanner, but i don't want to break anything!

now on almost 27k and still enjoying it, the black is a complete pain to keep clean though....

i fitted some bosch retrofit aero wipers this week which have tidied up the front end nicely, tempted to colour code the grill surround too and when the warranty is up it will get a remap and pd160 intake no doubt!

heres a couple of pictures, just another black fabia at the moment, but its my black fabia and i love it!

Looks live a very tidy car Dan, very nice!!!

So is it being Black really that hard to keep clean? Just that I'm after a Black vRS, but it'll really only be a weekend Car with using a Van for work so hoping I won't have to clean it every weekend!!!

Cheers

MarkT.

It will not have the stutter......

Looks good none the less :)

cheers for the comments, i am sure it has the stutter, its a BLT engine code and it stutters momentarily at about 1800-2000 rpm if you lift of the throttle then accelerate again, for example on motorway easing off to slow down slightly then reapplying some throttle, its a bit irritating but i am living with it for now.

with regards to black being hard to keep clean, i have found that obviously being black it shows the dirt easily which means that all the soot that gets on the back is quite noticable, and it seems to get sooty pretty fast. also the wheels seem to fling dirt up the sides of the car when it is wet/muddy on the roads and it shows up on the black quite badly, also the front seems to be a magnet for insects! when i cleaned it today there was a full on insect graveyard on the front of the car!!! i do a lot of miles though, if its just a fun car it would be fine i would have though.

cheers

Dan :)

yes, 55 reg vehicles with the blt engine code will stutter, but as with all 'affected' vehicles, the effects can vary wildly.

Welcome to the site Dan!

If you bought the car from Winchester Motor Company you should have been warned about the stutter when you were buying the car. Mark Mills-Goodlett, their MD, stood in the witness box at Winchester County Court and told the judge that all his salesmen were warning customers about this "phenomenon" of the car before purchase. It's not possible that he lied in court is it?

It will be interesting to see if they say they've never come across the problem when you take it back - short memories if they can't remember spending five grand on solicitors earlier in the year on the very same issue!

BTW don't use them for servicing; they are butchers. They broke trim and damaged the paint on my car and left oily marks on the seats trying a simple warranty repair - no apology, not even a mention when I picked it up. I'd recommend JKM at Portsmouth - proper enthusiasts.

interesting to hear that. i was not given any warning whatsoever that there may be a stutter on the car when i first looked at it, test drove it, or even on collection!

i was considering trying jkm for servicing and after what you just said i think i may well go ahead and use them!

cheers for the heads up

Bring it to Freeborn in Southampton. I can't comment on Winchester Motor Co, but my experience of Freeborn remains much better than with Sparshatts of Fareham.

I could never get my head around driving all the way to Portsmouth just for a service. I may give JKM a go one day just to see if I could be tmepted though.

i have now removed all the nasty free advertising from around the number plates, it looks much nicer now.

and my mate gave me this polo rear (aero) wiper to compliment the new front ones, really chuffed with it!

Dan :)

Do you prefer the aero rear wiper? I'm fitting front ones after payday but I'm not keen on the rear. Looks too skinny IMO.

Also, wiperblades.co.uk when asked about aero rears don't recommend them apparently.....my mate with a Puma asked and they said a standard rear is sufficient.

But, this is just my opinion. If you like it, good on you mate. Nice to see such enthusiasm. :)

If you want to keep the black plastic surrounds the Winchester Motorr co name and number rubs off with 1200 grit wet and dry very nicely. I used a little uPVC polish after to blend in the rubbed down bit with the rest.

I agree with you; if they pay, I'll advertise - although I wouldn't even do that for WinMoCo - gits!

i prefer the slim look, although not everyone's taste is the same obviously. i think it does wipe better than the standard one too, it seems to apply more pressure to the screen; and it doesn't leave smears like the old one did!

Now that is a benefit. The standard wiper does take several sweeps sometimes to clear the window.

Hi Dan. Nice motor!

Re: the stutter. I am a complete amatuer when it comes to car diy, but I managed the 9mm gasket fix in about 20 mins (if you don't count the hours I spent trying to get one of the bolts back in!! lol. But that was my own fault for being too hasty and not having enough patience!) But I would do it again no problem. And it makes a huge difference, I've never noticed it since I did it about 5 weeks ago.

Derek.
