I don't think it's as simple as that, they don't come on if the light sensor says it's too bright. They only come on in the dark so they are not directly linked to the interior lights, I suppose a wire could be run fom the light to feed 2 W5W bulbs but that sounds like a PITA to do.

Not for long!

I have something hopefully arriving in the post today ;)

Sounds interesting keep us informed :)

This is how the OEM ones are wired up on the Superb, they come on all the time, even in daylight, even if you turn all the interior lights off they still come on.

It would be interesting to know what's on the other end of that red wire.

I'd vote for gimmick, i'm afraid, although i should point out I've never owned a skoda with them.

Had them on my previous Mk3 mondeo. Not enough light to be of any signifcant use - but they look smart when you unlock the car at night though :)

Mine are really useful on my dimly lit drive, especially at the moment as the trees are droping all sorts of weird fruit, saves me treading on them when I get out!

You could always do a little investigation on mine! ;)

Ooooohhh eerrrrr Missus :P

Presumably the white is the indicator feed and black is the common ground wire for indicator and puddle lamp, presumably then the red wire is to power the light. If the output is generic across the Octavia range it may well be a case of running one extra wire to each door mirror and fitting pulldle lamp modules to the mirrors.

Question is, are you THAT desperate to have them? :D

If I could locate the output onto that red wire I might look into a retro fit :rubchin:

lol! :P

For the few people that expressed an interest, the LED's have been fitted to the puddle lights, they make a considerable difference as you can see in the pic, this was taken about 10 minutes ago so it was more or less pitch black.

I went for 'high power' 1 watt LED's :D

fancy doing a quick how-to and where you bought the LEDs from dstev2000

The LED's are the easiest part, I got these particular ones:

LED's

Pretty much any colour W5W/501 push fit bulbs can be used. The ones I used are a little expensive but i've dealt with the seller a few times before and they are very good. They can be bought for much less but from Hong Kong

The mirror casing pops off quite easily, push up the thin colour coded piece that sits under the glass slightly and then pull the whole casing upwards, it requires a reasonable amount of force and I found pulling it from near the point where the mirror hinges in and out to be the best way. Be careful as it's still only plastic at the end of the day.

The mirror needs to be pointing slightly downwards so as not to foul the casing when being removed.

Once removed you can see the puddle light unit, to remove the fitting you turn it 90 degrees and pull towards you (see pic) then it's a case of pull the old bulb out and push the new LED in,when replacing the light fitting make sure it's properly sealed as water can easily enter the mirror housing. The LED is polarity sensitive so make sure you test and prove it before popping the mirror cover back on. Replacing the cover is the reverse of the removal process. Make sure all of the clips have snapped back on and that the case edges are flush with the neighbouring parts.

There is no apparant problem with bulb failure (unlike the sidelights) so no worries there. The puddle lights on my MY08 go off instantly but I seem to remember my MY06 Octavia's puddle lights used to fade down (Clarification would be appreciated as I may be wrong :) ). Shouldn't be a problem but keep it in mind.

I'll post additional pics tomorrow if anyone requries them :)

I was parked in a different spot tonight, that sort of thing isn't a particular problem around here but once is too many times IMO :D
