Best Screenwash?

Featured Replies

What is the best screenwash to use? i noticed in the trip thread stu mentions VAG screenwash? what im after is something to remove these flippin flies that when they explode on impact seem to take up most of the windscreen and dont seem to want to remove them selves with a squirt n wipe.

VAG screenwash is needed to avoid blocking up the fan jets. I'm sure other screenwash does exist that will not cause similar problems, but as the VAG stuff is priced sensibly I've stuck with it I suppose.

Apart from keeping the concentration of screenwash vs water high, there isn't a great deal you can do to prevent having to clean the screen yourself though I reckon :(

Any links to the VAG one?

Soz - had a look but can't see it :(

The VW garage in Wantage will have it on the shelf though, I bought a LOAD of bottles at VW Kettering as they were trying to get shot of the old stock, still working through it :D

cheers, guess it be expensive then being vag?

Think it was a couple of quid for a 1 liter bottle of concentrate that makes up 5 liters of the top of my head, but it isnt' too bad :)

Perhaps worth asking if you can buy it in bulk and then do a GB for say Newbury meet or Oxon meet ;)

:lol ill see if they are open over the weekend then!! is there a VAG dealer in Abingdon

Dont think there is a VAG dealer in Abingdon, but you've got various dealers about, any Skoda/Seat/Audi/VW dealership will do :)

Newbury & Oxford have dealers for probably both, VW is in Wantage near Sainsbury's (but you probably know that :P ). Just happened to go to the Kettering one as their price was good for a service at the time + Ross worked there too :)

Im using the pink halfrauds stuff as it was on BOGOF and its been fine apart from the rear pipe behind the CD changer blowing off once

i work over abingdon in the day so i was just wondering if a vag dealer was over that way now SEAT have gone. will have to pop into VW during the week if they are still open when i get home.

That is the reason why VAG say you shouldn't use anything but their stuff, using normal stuff causes build up in the fan jets, then the hose comes off.

Not saying you can't here by the way, I used up ready mix and concentrate stuff I had, alternating with the VAG stuff, never had a problem either :D

When Hayley bought her car I used all the non-VAG stuff in that, as that has 'normal' jets so no worries :)

if i keep flushing the system with water and no screen wash will it remove the halfrauds or whatever stuff is in the washer bottle at present or would it just be better to pour in the vag stuff immediately (if i can find a VAG place open today?)

I know that mate.

Thats why i knew why my rear wash wasn't working at the time :D

Not bad for two years of using the cheapo stuff (or shows how tight i am with screen wash?)

Scania washer fluid is the best I've used and didn't have any probs with the fan jets on the Fabia using it. Rather potent but unfortunately my "source" now works for someone else so I just buy Holts' finest in Costco. Works well, smells nice and also doesn't seem to go off and smell like the VAG stuff does.

No idea if it works with the fan jets....

Ive been through many brands of screen wash and havnt found anything yet that removes bug juice so i stick to

the bog standard carplan stuff now and have no problems with it at all

I use simoniz glass cleaner to remove the bugs and grease it really is very good

and at 89p for 500ml at my local wilkinsons is a real bargain to boot

I also use the Lidl W5, an after a 3 week holiday in the south of France found it really good at removing dead flies

i have a spray bottle of the autoglymm insect remover which works a treat, spray on windscreen, leave for 20 seconds and then wipe off, also good for doing the bumpers too. There has also been an invassion in the past few nights of bugs and nats and other flying things which have been attracted to my car like pigs to sh-- anyone else noticed this?

Lastly if you cant remove bugs off your bonnet easily, put some of that expensive collonite wax on it lightly, leave over night and the roadkill (bugs) just fall off leaving it all nice and smooth as well as waxed ;)

cheers i know it took 3 big jugs and 3 sports bottles to fill it up from empty and the washer low warning doesnt chime just lights up. just trying to work out how much is in there for when i add the screenwash tomorrow.

what's a fan jet ?

what's a fan jet ?

It's the washer jet for the windscreen that sits on the bonnet. Called a fan because of the spray pattern from it....

Chris

so the sprayer on my Fabia vRS will be one of these?

Yup! You'll notice the water fans out, unlike other cars where they just have a focussed jet or two of water. Can't really see any advantage of it myself, but I guess it's a VAG trait :D
