audio upgrade???

Featured Replies

getting the audio upgraded in the vrs

im looking to get speakers fitted to the existing spaces in doors, side of parcel shelf etc.

the stuff i would like to use is fusion cause of the green bitz and bobz they use in the construction of the speakers

what size are the speakers already in situ? in other words what size will fit in and still retain its factory fit looks ?

the parcel shelf is a no no as i was unable to get 6x9s fitted properly in the last octy 03 model( cause of the ridge that runs from one side to the other) or does somebody make 5x9s that will fit?????

i have the sub for the boot and just need to get it boxed and wired

still havn't settled on a head unit for it yet but want again to keep it green to match the dash , dont want any dvd playing nonsense cause if i wanted to watch telly id never go out

suggestions please oh and the usual advice . thanks

i wouldnt run a sub and 6x9s unless youre going to protect to the 6x9s somehow. Also just a note-i wouldnt by audio gear just for what it looks like if you get me, that doesnt quite seem the point of upgrading ICE

thanks petey but ive heard that they are quite gud and reasonably priced the green bitz are just a bonus

just on that sub and 6x9 issue so what would you recommend ?

bin the sub for 2 6x9s or keep the sub ?

what about the speakers that are located behind seats at the side of the parcel shelf would they need protecting also ... thanks

17cm speakers will fit the front, BUT the mounting depth is very shallow.

are these widely available with a shallow depth or would there be an adaptor involved?

does that then have a knock on effect to the door panel ?

thanks

I used a set of custom fit sony components on the front, and they went straight in. Someone here fitted a set of Pioneer components ok, so their are speakers that fit, just not sure on the brand you mentioned.

thanks mannyo and all will have to keep a deep look into this gaping hole that is I.C.E.

Have you changed the head unit?

Ive just put an Alpine head unit in mine and it sound loads better than the symphony unit

I just upgraded my headunit to a Pioneer (see my other thread) and it sounds soooo much better over the symphony unit.

The next stage is to put in my old 10" sub.

Then I'll be looking at the front speakers, which will be 17cm components (6.5").

To fit components you will need the speaker mounting adaptors as seen here, and the mounting depth has to be quite shallow. EDIT: No speaker adaptors required for the front doors - speakers bolt straight in!

The best compromise I think is the Infinity Reference series - pretty competitive on price too.

Only problem I have with aftermarket HUs is you lose the OEM look of the dash, so Im keeping it standard sadly.

You could upgrade to something like this, and still keep the standard look?

Im guessing Id have to sell a kidney to buy that. :)

Ouch, yes, just noticed the price !

Hence my aftermarket upgrade, lol.

I wanted to keep an OEM look but couldn't take the changer set up an more so went for an Alpine head unit as they aren't bling and don't look out of place

I found that the MFD has better sound quality than the symphony. It's still not brilliant, but not bad as standard equipment goes...

Any pics Matt?

Cheers.

I have a set of those in the front doors easy fitting no cutting required as far as HU goes I couldn't take the pi55 poor standard item any longer, it had to go

HTH

Did you use the crossovers supplied or just pop the speakers in and keep the existing wiring??

That looks very nice...hmmm!

I used the the iso adapter loom straight into the cross overs and re-wired the door mids/tweeters with decent speaker wire, the standard stuff is a little on the thin side for my liking.

Here you go mate

Pics are off my phone but better than nothing
