Cigarette lighter not working

Featured Replies

Hi folks checked the forum for possible causes of cigaretter lighter not working

I got a warm feeling when found posting about child window lock back in 2003 - but this was not the answer perhaps the 2007 Octavia is different.

Could it be a fuse - if so which one. thanks for any guidance

Do you have a 2007 Octavia then?

Fuses are indicated in the owners manual. Some are on the end of the dashboard and some are under the bonnet.

Thanks - was ahoping someone could say yes likely to be the fuse and is number X located exactly here. Dont want to pull the wrong fuses and have to reset anything like the Maxi or stereo.

Also is the cigarette fuse same as anything else - because noting else not working even the back boot 12v DC charger is ok.

Well if you get your manual out and look at the page for the fuses, and locate the one for the ciggy lighter you can sit back and tell yourself to check fuse number X which is located at XY. It's in the book mate.

Think of the sense of achievment you'll have.

OK - did not realise how easy it was to find and get to the fuses at the side of the dashboard. the map in the manual is repeated in the inside of the dashboard end and I esily located the Cigarette 25amp fuse.

It was blown :+)

Swapped the fuse with the 25amp Heated Rear Window fuse in next slot. and hey presto cigarette lighter working again. So can use again for my 2 year old DVD - only to find I have probably accidently chucked out the DC lead.

Well bought a whole box of mixed fuses from Halfords for

See I told you it would be satisfying!!!

The CD player should be under warranty so not really worth messing with.

To VRStu, perhaps you can help me with a more complicated fuse problem. ? Like Blue Boy, my cigar lighter socket stopped working, it seemd that my Bluetooth handsfree charger caused a fuse to blow, BUT the one shown in the manual (#24) on the side of the dashboard is not blown. Further, I plugged the charger into the boot socket (Octavia L&K estate) and it worked for about 2 secs, followed by a "pop" from the front of the car. On checking the relevant fuse for the rear power socket #26 was also intact. I have telephoned the dealer, they have no idea what is wrong and no-one can look at the car in the next 2 weeks and I need the power for a holiday trip in 2 weeks. BTW, the charger is perfectly OK, I am an electronic engineer and it works fine on a bench supply taKing only 1/10th amp. Also the fuses in the fuse box are not as specified in the manual. I have had the car from new (about 3 months) and have not changed them myself so the factory must have put the wrong ones in (10/15 amps not 25 as specified). However to repeat the fuses are OK.

There is a revised layout for the fuse panels, sometimes both are shown in the manual so you may need to look at the other one.

Failing that as an electronic engineer I'd guess you have a multimeter to check the fuses yourself. They should be visible but it isn't always easy to see them all.

As the OP's issue is resolved now I thought I'd hijack the thread seeing as I'm about to ask a related question...

I went to plug in my Sat Nav power / charger into the cigarette socket this morning - nothing....

Pushed in the cigarette lighter - nothing - cold as the arctic...so went fuse hunting...

I found the fuse - it was a 10 amp installed - I'm sure the book said 25 amp - and it's not blown.

Do I have a fault?

Another strange one - my heated rear window fuse has blown - but the heated rear window works - well it did the other morning....

Confused....of BriSkoda!!

Lee has your book got both layouts in? As I said above some of the books show two possible layouts>

Is the heated rear window fuse actually the ciggly lighter and vice versa?

Thanks for the prompt reply!

There is a pictorial card in the fusebox cover - just basic pictures. In the manual there is a table with what the fuses are / ratings etc but some (I'll have to check this though) don't match what the pictorial card indicates.

There are two sections in the book (I'll have to check again) one with the dash fusebox and one with the engine bay fusebox.

Just to round this one up - it was the fuse - was looking at the incorrect fuse placement! Charger and ciggy lighter now working!

SOLVED ! - I have found that the fuse box schematic is a mirror image of the fuse layout !
