Tale of Aggravated Car Theft

A horrifying story of a guy who had his Subaru Outback and Fabia vRS stolen:

Back Room: Both cars stolen last night

There was then an almighty crash as a paving stone was hurled through the patio doors - as I entered the lounge to see what was happening, I can only describe it as akin to an SAS raid - 4 hooded, thugs piled through the broken glass screaming and shouting at me, and weilding long, machete-type blades. I could just about make out my wife and child stiflng their screams upstairs.

Most of the details are in the op, the first recovered car was the Outback. In a later post, he confirms the fabia was caught the follwoign day in Lancs, about 25 miles away with the false plates and 3 men were arrested.

Just a reminder to keep safe and dont be daft :(

Don't forget they took the Furby as well. I have a nice shiny Octavia vRS outside my house which is one reason why I have doubled the amount of locks in my house but after reading that, what's the point???

If you turn your house into Fort Knox they will simply wait until you come out of your house and demand your keys with the aid of a shooter or long, pointy blade.

If they want it they will have it, simple as that.

You can't have bugger all these days.

Yep, but having 2 cars to take made it more worthwhile.

On the subject of 30 mins call out.

Next door (very elderly) neighbours had forgotten usual evening ritual of locking, securing, turning off lights, 2 weeks ago. I'd already tried ringing the bell, tried another neighbour for contact numbers. Finally I began to get worried, so at 11pm rang the Police. They said they would send someone round.

I waited till 4am in the morning - and to this day they still have not turned up.

Admittedly it was a Friday night :thumbdwn:

But, quite simply there are not enough Police on at nights and so many of them are tied up writing reports etc.

Spoke to PCSO several weeks before - concerning unlicensed trial / nuisance bikes - she told me the area was to receive extra officers (saying, when was the last time you saw a PCSO around here  ), but when she'd asked about resources (cars, bikes, any transport) got no reply.

VRS's are increasingly being taken this way in a lot of areas of the UK.

However these area's are generally pretty predictable. But advice is keep the keys between you and them (yet not on a table within reach of a letterbox) and let them take it.

Personally I'd be saying they'd had guns regardless. Oh and ticking the "can I have a copy of their arrest video" box as armed police nab em

the response time hardly matters once the theives had left. I didn't intend to start a debate on the useful/uselessness of the police. I was motivated to highlight the method used to obtain two nice but hardly ostentatious cars, a position that many on this forum find themselves in. As is discussed on the other thread there is little to be done to beat this type of attack without going completely OTT.

We read of a couple of instances of this kind of thing happening in the Sheffield area while we had the CTR. I also read somewhere that the CTR was the most stolen / carjacked car in the country!!! The mrs would be up and looking out the bedroom window if ever she heard anybody outside the house for more than a minute or so. :thumbdwn:

We also kept a foot long maglite in the drivers door bucket as it was a near perfect fit. It then looked innocent enough if seen by anybody but would have made a bloody good club if the worst happened.

Cheers

Dave.

Very shocking that it's happening so close to home and you can't seem to have anything these days without living in fear of it being pinched :( I read on another forum a month or so ago about a chap whose house was broken into for his lowly Mondeo ST220!

I wonder how many people will be taking the law into their own hands and defending their own property? I think it's the only thing which will make these lowlife think twice about doing it!

After my last car was 'liberated', if it ever happens again I WOULD attempt to kill the intruder, and balls to the law.

It's mine, I paid for it, and NO scumbag is having it.

These sorts of thefts are often of reasonably pokey cars to then use in armed robberies - Scoobies and Evo's are the preferred targets though. Knew a guy whose Impreza STi was nicked (from outside his house while he was asleep) then filmed robbing a casino in Derby, one of the blokes was even wearing a jacket that had been pinched at the same time!

My car was stolen and used in a house break-in.

They broke into the previous owners house to take the keys.

Fine, I can understand, except....it's farkin bright yellow!!!!

Only in Liverpool would they nick a bright yellow car to remain inconspicuous  ;)

This is very scarey...I guess it depends what these theives are after, I mean what they intend to use the stolen car for. If it is stolen to order then you are going to be more at risk the rarer the car. If it is stolen for a job they will not take something like a smart car (no passenger/luggage space) so in this scenario a larger car might be more of a risk. I was going to suggest a turbo kit and 1.9td badges on a V6 Skoda Superb 'til I thought about the boot space.

Makes you want to just give up on 'obvious' hot models of cars like the vRS or coupes/cabrios, and get a sleeper. But then, they've won. People harp on about moving abroad. They've won again. They being the scum in this country who take the fruits of our hard work and wreck lives.

I forget who it is but some chap on here has the right idea, 1.4 badge on his vRS!
