2nd Car Ideas.

Featured Replies

Have a 51plate Octy vRS at the moment, but looking for another runabout for the missus too.

Looking to spend 3-4k MAX , but really dont have a clue what to go for.

Must be fairly new, was thinking about a base Fabia or similar.

Sporty would be nice, but cant see it at that price :D

Whats everyone got as a second car here ?

I guess it depends exactly what you need it for and how old you want to go. I've been looking at weekend cars with half that budget and so far on the list are:

- Mk2 MR2 turbo

- 90's 3-Series

- MX-5

- Kit car

- 944

If you need a bit more practicality, I'm sure you can pick up a sporty Ibiza/Astra/Focus/Golf for that sort of money, or maybe look at the last shape Primera GTI?

If it were up to me, i'd go old, no doubt, a really nice original 205 or similar would be lovely.

But the missus doesn't see it that way. :(

Get an MKI MX5.

Fiat Panda!! :D

Mk1 mx5 is out...needs to take a baby seat !

Will have to be something newer.

Your getting an Ibiza then............:)

How about a 1.8T Octavia Elegance? Sold my Jabba'd car for £2200 not so long ago so for £4k you should get a really tidy one.

Funny you say that Goochie.

There's a black Mk1 vRS in classifieds, they guy posted a few weeks ago saying he still has it, and he stays about 2 miles from me.

Ad says 4k ono.

Offer 3750 and i could have 2 cars the same ! :D

Wonder if the missus would go for that ?

A couple in our road have his 'n hers MK 5 Golfs. Both with personal paltes that are one digit different to the other.

How about a Kia Picanto.

Hmm..,.not sure about the Kia.

If it were something decent, i may start using it to commute and leave the vRS at home for the other half to use. (also keeps the miles down)

Maybe a high mileage vrs is the answer ! :D

Although i do fany a clean Clio 172, the original style.

nice, i do like the clio 172 sport. what about a mk3 golf vr6

I think its a great car - Mk1 I nearly bought one but I found that there steering wheel doest move for height adjustment. Im 6'2" and it was tight on my legs - hence I didnt buy it.

I though the seats were really nice - the engine noise and acceleration very pleasing.

One other thing to note - ch&vs do drive these and as such its caused premiums to become very expensive so another -ive.

I see no point in listing all the good things as they are evident, instead focus on all the bad points then choose the one with the least or a compromise on some issues.

Vr6 would be a bit too costly on my commute i rekon. Do about 50 miles a day, doesn't sound much, but this has to be a second car..so not that expensive to run.

206 Gti's are doing decent money, just had a peek at them on Autotrader.

Get a Mk2 Golf GTI mate.

I know of a really tidy one going for around £2700 - and it's a minter!

Failing that, what about a Lupo Sport or something along those lines? (I know they ain't in the same league as 172s, etc)

Focus ST170

Pug 307

Audi A2 1.4TDI - remapped gives more torque than an S3 in an aluminium car weighing less than a fag packet  £35 Road Tax PER YEAR!

Oh, and I was getting around 29mpg in my VR6 - they can be economical!
