Y Reg Fabia =

Featured Replies

yeah i just got my car tax bill, Y Reg 1.4 petrol classic £165. Is this right?

I seem to remember paying about £110.00 last year.

now it's a group E with co2 emmisson of 168G/km?? @ £165

Anybody else got same engine and can confirm this is a mistake. thks :thumbdwn:

Pre 2001 (i think) goes by engine size, now emissions

It states on the dvla web site cars reg before 2001 cc not over 1549 =£115

1.4 registered before 1st March 2001 is taxed at £115 for 12 months.

After that, under CO2 rules it would be band E and thus £165 for 12 months.

Check for V5 for the exact registered date.

I'm sure its £63.25 for 6 months and £115 for 12 months on a 1.4 pre 2001?

That's reg before March 2001,after that it now goes on emmissions.

Sorry if I have repeated info, other people were posting while I wrote.

Check the 2nd of my links. Do a search, put the make/model details, plus reg number and it'll tell you.

My April 01 Y reg Fabia is a £115 tax now - was £110 last year though. Just got in there with the new changes - saves me around £70+ a year I think

well mine should be the same then, the DVLA website just shows me what i already know - that i'm being charged for an emissions rating of 168 g/km cos thats what they have on their database for my car. What i'm asking is if anybodys knows if this is correct.

Don't you think £165 is a lot for a 1.4 petrol engine?? how can i check that my egnine really does produce that amount of c02?

You could get an emissions test done to determine how much CO2 your engine is producing, but as the tax bracket isn't determined by individual vehicle this won't make any difference.

It's not an especially efficient engine in terms of emissions...

If I remember correctly, Peterco is right. Cars on a y reg were registered between 1st march 2001 and 31st july 2001 meaning the tax disc calculation would be based on emissions rather than engine size.

Hope this helps

Wow, this tax hike seems extreme, I'm glad my 1.4mpi was pre 2001

Martin

According to the Fabia brochure I picked up at the beginning of the year the 1.4 16v 75bhp engine is tax category E (emissions 182) so £165. The 1.4 16v 100bhp is in category D (emissions 158) so £140. I was put off the petrol engine for that very reason.

Hi Ryles,

Unless I have missed the post, you have not said the month and year of registration, this will clear up this matter !

Anything that is Y reg and above (ie march 1 2001 and beyond) will be charged at the higher rate. Anything pre that date (ie feb 28 2001 and earlier) will pay £115 a year. Mine is @ the lower rate as its a 2000 on a V , all I can say is I'm glad I dont still have an Evo...lol

You're right, our Polo 1.4 TDi is a March 2001 and is measured on emissions, so is a whopping £35 PA.

My one is a 2000 on an X Plate ... £63.25 for 6-Months

1.4Mpi Comfort

I just renewed the tax for my 56 plate VRS today.

The V11 reminder thing states the CO2 as 143 g/km and the price was £115 for 12 months (plus a £2.50 fee for paying online by credit card which is a bit cheeky).

Seems like a bit of a bargain to me.:D
