Need Air!

Featured Replies

Hi. My 2002 Fabia AC works fine sometimes... other times it doesn't cool at all. Living as I do in the Dominican Republic, AC is totally vital. I had a mechanic check it and there was no power to the compressor, so I suppose it's an intermittent electrical problem--a relay or something like that. Trouble is, there's only one Skoda repair shop in the entire country and it's 150 miles away and I'd have to leave the car for several days while they get around to fixing it. If I could identify the defective part with a reasonable degree of certainty I could buy the part and have it installed locally. Does anyone know which part might be causing this? I'd appreciate any opinions and advice.

Is the car under warranty? If so the Skoda main dealer might be your best bet.

It not, if it is an electrical issue then an Auto Electrician might be your best bet, and possibly closer to you.

They should be able to test and replace the relay without to much hassle.

It's worth noting that the AC used by Skoda runs all the time when the engine is running (regardless of whether it is switched "on" on not) and needs to be kept maintained to avoid damage to the compressor.

As you have an intermittant power issue to the compressor you should be OK, just don't let the gas run to low (as the gas contains oil to keep the system in check).

A 2002 I would guess its out of warranty.

Hard to say what your problem is from here, maybe someone more knowlegable will know but the Evaporator temperature sensor is a common fault.
