Fabia vRS vs Civic Type R

Featured Replies

Going along the A45 today, in 6th doing 70mph with 4 people in the car

CTR goes past me so I decide to have a laugh - used the torque to stay right with him upto 90mph and he has to go down 2 gears to pull away from me

Mind you when the v-tech kicked in it was pretty brisk

I didnt even change gear

Just about sums up BHP vs Torque I reckon

Says more about the Honda VTEC to be honest.

Everyone knows you need to rev them to get the best out of them that's the whole idea ;)

The latest iVTECs have torque all over the place, but just not as much as a diesel in its hotspot revs.

So says more about atmo petrol engines in general. But when you rev them where the diesel has to shift, they're gone...

Yep, a real hot hatch alright, although bikes are still more fun. Mine redlines at 14K and the limiter kicks in at 14.5. The new Gixer 600 redlines and 16.5K!!

I think my Thundercat redlines at 13.5k , but by that point in first and second I'm more concerned with keeping the front wheel on the ground

Sorry, but I really am a torque monster. I love my V-Twin! :D 10.5k red-line, but don't need anymore than that. ;)

Thats the beauty of the powerplant in the vRS, theres very little it wont keep up with if you catch the cars in the wrong gear. Sure, the CTR would beat the vRS if they were thrashing it, but for most driving in most situations, the vRS will be every bit the equal, if not better still...

Im sure a chipped vRS would be able to stay with a CTR, up until 3 figure speeds anyway. I had a little blast with one from about 20-80mph and he could not pull an inch on me.

Mine used to enjoy them, mainly for breakfast :D

Now I just hunt Subarus in my SDI

Hot damn them Justys are fast :D

I love my V-Twin! :D 10.5k red-line;)

And my V-Twin claps out at 6500rpm :D {1200cc conversion, Dynojet and

straight through pipes, keeps the neighbours happy ;)

Sounds like a nice sounding Hog you got there! ;)

I've been looking very seriously at the new Buell's with a stage 1 kit. Very nice. :D

You may be right about that, it's just with this new pipe the revs climb very quickly indeed :D

You think they're fast, try against a Suzuki swift, you can feel their power from the other side of the road :D

Thats the great thing about powerful Tdis on the motorway, if traffic slows and then starts to pick up again you can usually just boot it and your'e back up to speed - its easy to leave plently of cars for dust.

Even the Octy vRS feels a bit weak (unless you drop it to fourth :D)

CTRs and the like would be easy meat if you catch them in the wrong gear, but if they are on song they'll make you look like your'e going backwards. ;)

CTRs fly around a track

Not having at go at you here Fab (just the lots of people who say this ;) )But wont pretty much any decent performing car beat another if they are in the "wrong" gear(obviously assuming that both cars are within 80 to a 100 ish bhp of each other).Always baffled me this statement,by definition if your in the wrong gear youve chosen the gear which is "least"efficient for travelling quicker. Thus your "right" gear for 60 mph would be forth in a FAB and due to ratios of the tavia Vrs 3rd would be your "right" gear.Anyone can embarras any car on the road if they are in to high a gear and dont get on the power until say a second after you. This is where some people can get a little carried away when they claim to have "skinned" a porsche 911 turbo for example.......(not mentioning any saxo`s here..........:rofl:

Yours

;) I agree with what you're saying...

Perhaps being in the wrong gear is the wrong phrase - I mean that with a car like the CTR and the fact that the power is developed high in the rev range, its harder to react and speed up quickly if you have to change down a gear or two first to get back in the power band.

With a car with plently of low down torque you just put your foot down and off you go as long as you'e above say 2000rpm..

Did my comment on the Octy ruffle a few feathers! ;):D
