My car is poorly

Featured Replies

Came out of the hotel this morning, pootled along for a couple fo miles, joined the motorway, gave it some beans to accelerate and hey I have a normally aspirated RS!

It would appear that the turbo ain't blowing which leaves me with 2 options:

1. Take it to a dealer and get a new turbo under warranty

2. Take it to Jabba and make it a bit of a monster!

Decisions, decisions.

First thing to do is to go put VAGCOM on it to see if there are any fault codes, strangely no funny lights on the dash, didn't sound rough or loud, just no boost.

Hope its nothing to do with me !!!! was I tooooo gentle with it???

You can guess my thoughts but they are very busy at the moment. I tried the Seat on Saturday & its a real handful with all the poke driving the front end but its FUN FUN FUN !!!!!

option number 2.

JABBA! and 290 bhp+ !

:drive1:

OK, done the VAG.COM bit and I have 3 fault codes, as follows:

16804: Catalyst System Efficiency Below threshold (Bank 1) 35-10: intermittent

16502: Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Signal too High. 35-10: intermittent

17705: Pressure drop between Turbo and throttle valve (check DV!) 35-00

Any ideas? Other than the obvious check dump valve.

Stuart, nah it weren't you (unless you want to admit liability? :D :D ).

Found the UK distributor we talked about but can't find the place in Soton that do it (will keep looking). UK distributor is:

Motorsport International Ltd

Unit 2, 104 Branbridges Road

East Peckham, Kent TN12 5HH, UK

Fon: 0044-8702 412 382

Fax: 0044-1622 872291

eMail: [email protected]

Hope that helps.

Jon

Are you sure the 1.4 16v versions have turbos? ;)

Hope you get it sorted - but from your list at the top, option 2 is the most tempting :)

Thanks Jon

Perhaps your car is just saying it wants a rest, its probably heard you mentioning the ring again !!!

I am getting a simmilar problem with mine.

I have occasionally noticed that I have no or very little boost. But when I turn the engine off and then back on again, all is then fine. This has only happened a couple of times and again, no errors are shown on the dash.

Any ideas guys ???

On a point of order, and as one Moderator to another, shouldn't this thread be in: My Lack of Performance?

When the temperature sender failed on my Felicia the car wouldn't idle when cold, but the engine was fine when warm. The sender was indicating 122

Jon,

I would do 1. then do 2. assuming 1 has no cost to you and 2 is in your mind anyway, best of both worlds maybe.

re 2. I have 2 options for late q2, maybe q3 :) Jabba and APR, yes there still here and it's a garret (used on WRC and made down the road) But can't do anything untill my liccle van has some handling and stopping mods.

Just serviced the dump valve, it was pretty gunky and 'orrible. Cleared out the fault codes. Will soon find out whether it was that or not.

Westy, you got standard or uprated DV? If its standard, are you getting a "honking" type noise? If so take it to a dealer ASAP and get it replaced! If its an uprated one, take it to pieces, clean it and re-grease it.

As for the temp sender one, taking it to a dealer to get it checked out. The cat, well that will be a Milltek problem (its under warranty) if indeed there is something wrong with it.

Re the options, Colin you are right. Option 1 is the way to go, assuming that it is the turbo and comes under warranty. Hopefully they won't pull the "wear and tear" excuse due to mileage. If they do I feel a trip to a scrappy coming on, followed by a booking into Jabba. If they don't, well, I'm happy with what I've got and I can spend the money on the rally car instead! :D

Sorted! My car is now back to full health :( No bigger turbo for me then.

Just happy its sorted though.

Westy, get someone (dealer or someone with VAGCOM) to read your fault codes.

Jon

:D

Cheers Jon, will do

Pleased to here you've sorted it.

With the money saved you could treat your self to some new tyres ;)

well, was it the DV?

  • Author

Yep, it was the DV. Normally I give it a clean and regrease every 10-15,000 miles. Just realised I hadn't done it for about 25-30000

But it works OK now :D

you have a forge dv006 right?

there is no diaprham (spelling?) in that one right?, just a metallic piston.. ?

Can't remember if mine's a 6 or 7. Neither have a diaphragm, just a piston. Easy to clean though.
