Hi all, can any one give advice?

Now the mornings are getting colder i'm finding the heaters take a long time to even get warm. My audi did the same thing and just before I changed it there was a suggestion that this wasn't normal, unfortunatley I didn't get chance to check it out before it went.

The superb has exactly the same system, am I just unlucky or is the heating system just rubbish?? :confused:

These diesels are slowish to get warm - if car getting on though it could also be thermostat playing up.

I'm sure others will be along soon to add to this.

They are very slow to warm up. the 'premium' brands of the VAG range have aux heater elements in the heater box to provide warm air until the engine warms up. To my knowledge Skoda do not.

Pretty much stuck im afraid, nature of the beast.

Urm - you can get pre-heaters, be it electrically powered, or derv, search for Eberspacher amongst others.

I've looked into it but never got round to it unfortunately.

I find mine begins to heats up within a mile and a half from cold, and that's whilst not exceeding 2500 rpm or flooring it either. It's certainly doesn't appear to be much slower to begin producing heat than our petrol Octavia....

Any idea how long it takes (minutes or miles) for warm air to start appearing? It could well be it takes a long time if all your driving is stop start in town. I think my Fabia used to take 5-10 minutes to get warm depending on how soon I could get the car onto the main NSL roads. It warmed up really quickly once on them....

mine can take a good 5 or 6 miles before its noticeably warm, thats even when the missus has the seats switched on !!!!! my 130 was a bit quicker but not massively so.

the easiest is the obvious: if yuo have climatronic, switch to internal circulation (lower leftmost button with arrow) until the engine temperature indicator starts moving up. then switch it back to Auto mode (the Auto button).

Even on 1.9TDI in Octavia I found this made the cabin warm up 3-4 times faster, and on Superb 2.5TDI V6 the warmup is almost immediate (under 3-5min).

True, I happen to have both front and rear window heated (and seats too, even though they are cloth) - an upside of importing the car from Ireland. Has anyone noticed how in UK Skoda salesmen convince everyone that heated seats are only possible with leather? They actually work better with cloth upholstery.

In any case, make sure recirculation is active, and cabin warmup is then very quick.

The heater takes approx 12mins to warm up with good flow of traffic.

I tried the recirc button this morning and was pleased to feel the car warm up a couple of minutes sooner.

Im toying with the idea of still taking the car to my local garage and having them look at it.

That is a long time. Are you totally sure that no air that is warmer than the outside temp is coming through for 12 mins? Mine starts warming up in two to three and is fully warm in 8 to 10. So if you're expecting it to be giving a nice hot blast in 5 mins I suspect you might be expecting a little too much?

As a control system the "Climatronic" is a joke (stupid fiddly buttons which distract and can't be operated on a bumpy road, unlike a decent sized kn0b which you can grab hold of) but the warm up time for my 130 PS diesel is OK.

Mine will blow fairly warm air after about 1 mile of driving at 30 mph.

It then takes a bit longer, say another mile for the dashboard thermometer to indicate normal running temperature. Not bad for a very efficient diesel.
