Premium Fuel - What Car

Featured Replies

I'm not sure about diesel, but the higher octane petrol takes a tank or so to start having full effect. I gather that it adjusts the ECU to suit itself as it is used more.

I bought the Millers Diesel Sport 4 yesterday and will fill up later and give it a try. It says on the bottle that it will be noticeable within the first 250 or so miles after initial application so I'll know by the journey back from work on tuesday if its any good!

It also says that it can increase BHP by 17%

It also claims that it can increase MPG by 7%

Reduces smoke emmissions by 70% - hmmmm, we'll see!

Over the next week or two I'll try Tesco std diesel, Shell V-Max and and double doses of Millers in both.

17% - my ar5e!

Pretty sure the smoke output from the Mongrel is with Millers!

Yep it is, although if you ever stick your head into Jason's car you may wonder if he has been missing the fuel tank with it all these years and squirting it into the interior.

Wont ask what its like without then :D

I went to two Tesco garages, in Andover and Basingstoke, today, and there was no super unleaded available. There appears to be a shortage. Had to make do with Sainsbury's, so I hope it's as good!

SNAP! Went to Shoreham by Sea and Lewes Tescos from Thursday to Saturday - no super. Today I phoned Shoreham and they'd got some in, so I filled up.

I spotted that in Andover when I filled up on Thursday! Assumed they were just waiting for a delivery, but I've not been back since to know if they're restocked.

Chris

My regular Shell garage in Mill Hill (London, NW7) has only had V-power diesel and V-power unleaded for the past week. No regular stuff at all!

someone at the Newbury meet mentioned queing up at Tesco's only to find they had no super. Ive had no problems get Vpower, but perhaps that is the way things are going :(

Ok filled my car up with Vpower diesel and did the same return journey...Northampton to Manchester...and I increased my MPG by 1 to 42mpg! I think it might make a difference if the engine was a bit looser!

I'm hoping the MPG increases soon!! Not impressed at the moment with it!

No Tesco 99 here in Peterborough on Friday either.

perhaps theres been a fuel mix up again ???

@vimto you need to use a full tank up of it first so the ecu can adjust itself etc before you will notice the difference ;)

Still no Super UL at Tesco. Asked the lady at the till and she said 'I have no idea. All I know is, we don't have any stock of it and aren't expecting any within the next two days'.

So, I had to go to Sainsburys and put in 97 and thankfully, they have yet to put the 2p on the price.

Ive just emailed them now im on my own pc.

I've just emailed them too. I just noticed that on the one bl**dy pump I used to refill yesterday the label on the super grade said 97 RON. All the others around say 99 RON. So I have emailed them to see if this is just an out of date label, or if they actually do stock both octanes.

I emailed them, this morning, but I doubt we'll get quick replies.

Fifth Gear Last night claimed that the petrol versions of these octance boosters reduced max power by 2%.

but if enough email them then it should give them some work to do... what reasons do you all think thaty the fuel is unavailable? I tihnk its got to be another contamination scare.

Purely based on my experience, they are totally wrong. My car feels much more responsive and much keener than 95 ron petrol and I only have a 1.6FSI.

Possibly - but down our way it was back in stock by Sunday.

Using 97 or 99 RON in a car designed for 95/91 operation can reduce performance due to the ignition timing not being optimized to take advantage of the slower burn time of the higher octane fuel and it is also a waste of money.
