I have just bought the Coming Home control module (relay) fitted to earlier (~2004)Superbs (original shape), to retrofit "Coming Home Lights".

Does anyone here have them actually fitted to their car from the factory?

Could you please explain how they actually get activated in the Superb?.

There is no extra position on the Light Switch.

They appear to be activated by flashing the headlights and opening the door (or a similar sequence)

Can anyone advise the step by step procedure, please?

Maybe there is a section in the owners manual explaining it, that you could reproduce here.

Hope i get your question correct.

The coming home light is actually the light below the both the wing mirrors.

Whenever the unlock button is press on the remote control automatically the coming home light will light up for quite a while.

It will go off when you insert the keys into the ignition and start the engine.

Thats how it goes.

But i guess the coming home module have to be included with the electric seats so it allows the passenger wing mirror to move down when reverse gear is engage.

Hmm. It's marketing hype but I thought VAG's coming home feature was the facility to have the headlights on for about 30s when you leave the car.

I thought it was standard - my base model (MY 05) has it. Engine off, lights off, flash headlights, exit car.

The "Coming Home" lights leave the headlights on after you get out of the car.

It is just a simple relay that plugs into the main relay box - Part no. 3U0 941 597 A

I have just found some info on a German Sharan site which gives the sequence something like this:

Only works if headlights have previously been on for at least 10 seconds.

Light switch off

Engine off

All doors still closed (well at least the drivers door because thats the one the relay is hooked up to)

Flash headlights (within 2 minutes of switching off lights)

Pull out ignition key

Open door to get out.

exit car.

Does that sound like the full sequence of events?

On a similar note, is there anyway to make the puddle lights come on without unlocking the car? My friends volvo has a button which turns on the interior lights and puddle lights without unlocking the car, so you can find it in the dark

You might well be right about the sequence Graeme. I played with this a couple of times when I got the car and haven't used it since. My home parking place is well lit so I don't really need it.

I'm afraid this device and a few others on the Superb are gimmick territory - what I'd give for a clear round analogue clock which tells the time, all the time instead of that useless bl***y trip computer. A rear wash wipe would be good too.

Hope I'm not too late with this. I've looked up the appropriate section in the handbook for my 03 Superb. This is what it says:

' Coming Home Function. This function makes it possible to switch on low or main beam for a short time after leaving the car eg to illuminate the path to the front door etc.

Selecting the Function:

Switch off the light

Switch off the ignition

Flash one time with the headlights

Open door, the low beam lights up.

If you shift the lever into the main beam position, the main beam lights up. If the door remains open, the light remains on for about 3 minutes. If the door is closed, the light remains on for about 30 seconds.'

For the 'Puddle Lights' (the ones in the exterior mirrors) the handbook says:

'The lights come on after the doors have been locked or on opening the front door. The lighting goes out about 30 seconds after the doors are closed or if the ignition is switched on. If the doors are open, the lighting goes out automatically after about 10 minutes provided the ignition is not switched on'.

Just tried carolyn's and it works on hers. Must be a standard feature. Oh 04 1.9tdi Comfort.

That applies to the Octy II Paul, this is in the Superb forum.

Sounds like a typo - they would come on whenever the interior overhead lights come on basically.

Yes, works on both main beam and dip. Just a word of caution though - the warning buzzer indicating that you have left your lights on when you open the door does NOT operate when using the Coming Home feature. Makes sense but don't let it throw you when you are doing the wiring!

I'd be suprised if it doesn't, I've just checked mine and it works. 53-plate Classic TDi...

hi there guys...i didnt know i had the coming home function either on my 56 plate superb comfort 140 tdi either...all i got to do now is teach my wife how to use it as she parks in some very dark driveways when she checks up on her clients on her carers rounds in evenings......one thing she asked me tho was this...she noticed on the instrument panel next to the nought on the speedometer gauge, there is a little circle below it, and is partially illuminated with the instrument panel lights being on...i've tried to look real close and it looks like some element or a warning light?? any ideas on what that might be? regards andy

That is actually a photosensor that adjusts the panel brightness depending on the ambient light.

If you shine a torch on it with the panel lights on, you will see the brightness of the display actually change.

I think the idea is that if you are driving in the country on unlit roads you set the manual control to your preferred lighting level. When passing through a town or village with street lighting, the sensor detects this and adjusts the illumination to maintain the preferred level. Bit of a luxury........

Btw - an apologies for hijacking the thread - how does the little sunshine detector on the dash work and what does it do? Why is it there - does it work if the sun is behind you?

I meant that it adjusts the brightness of the pixels in the MFA - you can clearly see the change if you shine a light on the sensor.

This sensor basically tells the Climatronic whether it is cloudy or sunny so that it cranks up the cooling effect of the A/C to keep the interior temperature at the set level (in conjunction with all the other sensors, of course).
