Japanese Grand Prix 2007 - an outstanding race

Wish I'd brought shares in dummys this year...

That or contract for picking up thrown ones.

Mind, must be gauling for a driver to see a rookie land a pretty perfect job with a highly competitive car. F1 should have one chassis.

Mark Webber on Hamilton -

I think he did a 5hit job behind the safety car. He did a 5hit job and that’s it. He spoke in the drivers’ briefing about how good a job he was going to do and then he did the job the opposite way, so we know for next time, it’s no problem.

Mark Webber on Vettel (live on ITV) -

It's what you get when you put kids with not enough experience in one of these cars. They do a good job for a while and then they go and f**k it all up.

If they decide to deduct hamilton's points for this then I'll give up on formula one for good

Agree Alex - this season has been the best for a while, but keeps getting dragged back down by politics and driver tantrums. Bottom line Vettel wasn't looking where he was going and drove into the back of Webber which put him out of the race. I suspect that, as Colin hinted at, there is a lot of envy of Mr Hamilton.

Chris

I tend to agree with the above comment that it was Vettel's fault but I also think this (and the other) thread demonstrates the classic British tendency to ignore any fault by any British driver / team, and blame eveything on a FIA / Ferrari conspiracy. Would have loved to have seen the response on here if the complaint had been: (a) from a Ferrari driver; and (B) if in seasons gone by Schumacher had been the one accused of slowing down like Hamilton did.

Also would have loved to see how people would have responded if the McLaren / Ferrari roles were reversed, Ferrari had been accused and found guilty of what McLaren have and their drivers were allowed to keep the points depriving Hamilton of a championship!!! A bit of uproar maybe?

Personally I thought it was a great GP and think its very sad that some people feel the need to constantly harp on about Ferrari when all they did was c*ck up monumentally  Thought that a lot of drivers showed some real bottle and the Massa / Kubica and Kovalainan / Raikonnen battles at the end were excellent

I wonder why this didn't happen straight after the race? Have certain people being seeking advice first? F1 is too much business and not enough sport. The way I see it if everyone is behind a safety car they should be responsible enough not to drive too close to the car in front.

Funny how all this BS happens the year a) A Briton leads the F1 championship, B) a rookie leads the championship and c) the first black driver leads the championship.

This year has been very fishy over several things that have happened to try and scupper Lewis.

Any F1 fan can say 100%, this would not happen if he was a Ferrari driver!

Just posting a link to the clip YouTube - Hamilton GP-FUJI Safetycar crash

Can't work out waht hamilton was doing but the accident is funny perfect example of a rear end shunt while looking out the side window.

Looks to me like he's staying very far wide , slows a little so he can accellerate again to keep the car up to temperature as is perfectly normal in these conditions.

Mark Webber slows a bit and Vettel chooses that moment to accellerate. There was plenty of room in between the two cars ahead of him that he could of used if he could see. Obviously because of the spray he couldn't , in which case he shouldn't have accellerated - drive at a speed such that you can stop in the distance that you can see to be clear.

Pretty damning on that evidence - It looks for all the world like his engine has stalled and he's coasting...

He just doesn't follow the safety car in the slightest and is actually behind Webber after the shunt.

Keeping tyres/Brakes etc warm is one thing, but he also has to keep a steady pace, from what I have heard this was not the only time he was overtaken in avoidance or made sudden changes in speed.

CHampionship leader or not, he is a rookie, and he is gonna make mistakes, I think a grid place penalty for the Chinese GP will be a fair result.

thankfully the correct outcome has prevailed

interestingly , doesn't the Toro Rosso cars have Ferrari engines in , maybe thats why its took them 5 days to put a complaint in , Ferrari messages to Red Bull/Toro Rosso were lost somewhere like the ones that Ferrari were sent over the tyres on Sunday

methinks ferrari need to check their email systems...

correct outcome I thought, F1 needs to settle down and concentrate on sport rather than any of this political BS.

hopefully lewis can do it this weekend...

The on car vid they showed before this on the news from the same period, you couldny see the safety car at all! My guess is Hamilton's visor was so steamed etc that he moved off line so he could attempt to see.

IMO the other drivers should have been staggered so as not to suffer too much from spray, rather than drive like a rep on the M25 in fog at 90 in the outside lane!

May need correcting on this, but Ferrari are one of the only teams NOT to bring their own servers to a GP. Instead they uplink and leave their servers for mail and data safely in italy. Others process live stuff locally, and mirror it back to their base. From my understanding.

I've also heard that the FIA and F1 management have been deluged by emails complaining about this season's politics, failings to apply the rules fairly to all etc etc.

Maybe this had a bearing on things, and will continue to when ferrari attempt to get the drivers championship handed to them on the golden FIA platter during the winter period?????

Think you are right about the drivers championship. I think the if Kimi doesnt beat Hamilton and Alonso to the title in Brazil then it will go back to the courts. Problem is Mosley already said the immunity they gave the McLaren drivers had no legal standing
