Installing new front speakers

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Just bought some Infinity 6010cs for my Octavia mk1 vRS and obviously want to get them fitted. Is there any guides on this as I've never done it before?!

I'm guessing i'll need to take the door cards off, find a place for the crossover etc...

Not sure where to run the new cable to the mid / tweeter either.

Any help appreciated :)

Is it similar to this?

Rob's Skoda vRS

I really don't want to break any of the clips / not be able to get it back on!!

Cool, thanks for the help.

Does anyone have a tip for getting the door handle off? I've butchering the plastic and it still won't come off. Great fun.

Hi.Virtually the same as the rears as in the link.I would run in new tweeter cables.I ran all new cables and put the crossover in the kickwell sides to make it easier to wire the amp to them.If its the same as mine the inner part of the handle pops off(levers off).

Ok, i've gotten this far now:

Bit confused as to what cable I would put into the crossover?

There's four cables going to the mid speaker.

Help I'm lost!!

One of the pairs is the headunit output the other is the link wires to the tweeter.

Hope that helps

Thanks mate, got them installed in the end.

Pretty poor installation, for example the crossover is just kinda sitting on top of the speaker mount...doesnt seem to rattle.

My main plan is to run the fronts with low bass and get a small sub, so shouldnt cause any problems!!

Run them down to 80/100 hz with a small sub, 10" or 12" should sound nice.I am putting the rest of my stuff in next weekend(fri, sat, sun). Are you amping the fronts or running off of hu

Fronts are just running off the standard headunit so don't sound great, I'm planning to fit a decent alpine which should make a decent difference. Don't think i'll amp the front... I'm not that much of a nut, I honestly think the upgraded fronts and an okish 10ish active sub would do me fine!

Going to do the headunit next.... I'm reckoning the standard headunit must not push much power out at all.

New alpine headunit will make a big difference, you can set the fronts on high pass(80/100 hz) and the sub-out to the amp for the sub.Should sound good.

Installed the other side today!!

Cracked the bloody tweater housing (where can I get a new one?!).

Also the door is slightly sticking out as the crossover didnt sit too well because off all the controls!

It's all working tho, and sounds good so can't be too bad?

Alpine headunit next! ;)

Try the dealer might not be as expensive as you think ,i brought a new switch panel for the drivers door it was £12.Worth a try.I put my crossovers in the footwell kick panels.Cant you put the crossover further back in the door?

Sweet, I'll drop them a call tomorrow :)

Not really, the original wiring hasn't got much slack and I didn't really want make more connections and extend the cables to be honest.

Just been out driving and it's sounding better, no rattles so happy that crossovers are ok!

Alpine headunit soonish I think, just need to check my funds... then a small 10" powered sub I reckon.

Hmm, I'm currently sorting out the ICE in my Mk1 Octy. I saw your post in Talk Audio, but like I said, I'm just starting mine so I didn't have a clue what you were on about!

You say there's not much room for crossovers, is this because you've left what looks like a massive peice of perspex in the door? I haven't looked in mine yet, but I guess that's the weather proofing/insuation then?

I removed the waterproof membrane from mine.I have put £100 of stinger roadkill deadening in each door including a layer on the inside of the door which seals it.

While we're here, how have you routed your speker cable and RCA's from the front to the boot?

I've got my power cable in and ready, all running down the passenger side. I was going to go down the middle for all signal cables, but it doesn't loook like it'll pop into the boot very tidilly around the middle of the back seat area?

I havent yet that is next weekends job(fri, sat, sun).Fitting hu,subs and cabling from front to the back and more sound deadening.I will get photos as i am doing it, so others can see.I want to put the power cable on the passenger side and the speaker cables down the drivers side.I also did the backs of the door panels with stinger roadkill.

Hmm, it'll probably be easier to go down the drivers side with the RCA's and speaker cable, I've just always gone down the middle! And being a little prone to OCD like tendancies, I'd be concerned that the drivers side speakers would have a longer run of cable than the passenger!

O.T. Do you go on Southerdownhill?

I havent got rcas to run from front to back.Speaker cable dosent bother me i have 25m of ixos that i had from another install.

OT.Yeah used to but not for a while bike was on there.I have give up DH/Freeride.

Oh yeah, I've got plenty of speaker cable, I jsut wouldn't be able to sleep knowing they weren't all the same length!

I still go on there occasionally. Used to have a 222 but sold it to fund a hardtail, better for exercise!

I have never noticed the difference in speaker wire lengths. Not even on my home audio which runs kimber tc cables and they are vastly different lengths.

Hmm, maybe I'll just run it all down the drivers side then... would be a lot easier as I wouldn't have to take a front seat out!

I wouldnt put the power cables next to the speaker cables due to interference.

Power cable is already in down the passenger side! I will probably run the remote lead with the signal cables, but I doubt that will be a problem, some RCA's come with a remote built into them already anyway.

I have always kept power cables away from signal cables.Perhaps its me!!!
