Damned Tar Spots!

Featured Replies

I hate them.... I HATE them with a passion!

But at least I was able to rummage through Jon's little box of tricks to uncork a bottle of Autoglym intensive tar remover. It worked fairly well on the spots, but it still took me two hours and I think I'm still high on the fumes. :D

Also managed to clean the car well for the first time since pretty much owning it but I can't be bothered to take a piccie because it's raining and the wheels still need some tar treatment as well... all in good time.

Oh, and also, silver paint is a BAD colour for tar spots! Once you see one, and zap it, you find loads and loads of them and end up spending ages getting rid of them! Oh, you lucky black magic owners! :D

*Feels a Macbeth moment coming on*

"Out, damn'd spot! out I say!" :D

Was going to wash & wax mine today, but been raining on and off all day :(

Jason know what you mean WRT the tar spots. WD-40 is very good at removing them and smells a bit better than other stuff!

Couldn't agree more Jason, I just spent ages de-spotting! The closer you look, the mroe you spot, and silver is indeed a bad colour for showing them up. I got myself some Turtle wax bug and tar remover stuff which seems pretty good (and was on 2 for 1 at halfords).

You need a clay bar guys and girls

Makes light work of tar spots

Yellow is just as bad a colour, however a bit of white spirit removes them quickly, then put a bit of decent wax over the top to seal the paint work. Oh and don't forget to de-tar on a regular basis otherwise there will end up being hundreds of the little buggers.....

I suspect mine has never been de-tarred, and it took a good clean from me to uncover them all, hence my frustration... I'm gonna have to Zymol the car before my trip on Thursday because using the tar remover left pale swirls all over the paintwork!

Yep. Agree that Yellow is just as bad!

Spent a good couple of hours last weekend de-tarring it and still missed a few bits before i polished it!
