What's the point??

Another pretend 4x4!!

Why do manufacturer's make cars that pretend to be something else??

Because people buy them.

Because the raised driving position is popular , as is the chunky styling.

4 wheel drive itself is often unnecessary

Actually, styling-wise, I think that looks pretty good. Breaks up the slabby sides of the new Fabia quite nicely.

I'd agree on that. Makes a thouroughly dull 'blue rinse' car look almost interesting...imo.;)

Id say why do people buy 4x4's and not use them, apart from on the road....?

(As in X5 etc that kinda thing!)

I think this car looks good if you ask me....Then again im a biased employee!

People buy 4x4's as a status thing.

Just check out the mum's on the school runs!!

Still not sure about these faux by fours though. Same sort of idea with the raised seating position as the Ford Fusion and similar and all you see driving those are senior citizens. No offence intended.

i actually like the look of it..... maybe not in those colours.... though

im driving the roomster scout and i'll let you know why they do it :)

cos it adds a bit of beefiness to the car, making it appeal to a wider audience!

its got nothing to do with 4x4?? ok so the first scout had 4x4 but it will be the only one imoa. that picture looks the nuts too!

Because people like to have cars that are individual/ stand out.

There is as much point in this as there is sticking big alloys and a body kit on any hot hatch.

When they make a car as good looking as this is it any suprise..... SO Sexy! Can't wait to be able to get one second hand when they are cheap enough. I like this car as you may well guess;) :D

I think that looks soooo cool. Can we now have a 2.0 TDi/140 + DSG version with lowered suspension and decent wheels, please ? Juvenile OAP Special. Looking for a replacement for my beloved Fabia vRS but nothing out there. Just want something quirky, quick and diesel. Is that too much to ask ?

Fabia Scout Combi , when does it come out over here , any ideas?

Would lowering the suspension defeat the object of this car??

I live in the Peak District and, with our winter weather, a small 4x4 is a neat compromise to ensure mobility.

Makes me laugh, though, that all the mums at the local primary schools drive Land Rover Discos and the like...but leave them at home and walk the kids in when it is icy/snowy :-)

Someone I work with has a Freeloader and is scared to drive it when it get's slippery.

One day she had it parked on a slope in the car park when it started to snow and she wanted to go home early in case her car fell over in the car park....

Anyone see the Fabia Scout in the News of the World 21.10.07 ??

Motoring columnist also thought the Scout was 'pointless' and said it was just Skoda trying to drum up sales and overcharging for a Fabia with a few extra bits of plastic on it!! In reality he's right you know, you're just paying for some extra pieces of trim...........

Well, I'd settle for some plastic on the bumpers of my Roomster but didn't want the extra expense of the Scout - which was only just coming out as we ordered ours.

I'm tired of car salesmen telling me that the customer wants colour-coded bumpers. What a nice little earner for the paint shops, etc.

I want a bumper that does exactly what it says on the tin, especially considering the parking antics of half the population (not mine, you understand)!

But many manufactures seem to be doing it these days. Maybe its just the current trend.

:P This is a bit of a silly view as the Scout widens the appeal of the car and potentially generates more sales for Skoda at not too much extra cost.

If you look at the Roomster Scout, it costs more than a level 2 but it has bigger alloy wheels, sunset glass, ESP, TPM, a nicer interior and roof rails as well. In the case of the Roomster and the Fabia, it's basically just another trim level and widens the choice in the range.

Octavia is a different story.
