Insurance advice or experience

Featured Replies

Hi All

Any advice or experience of insurance, claim or not claim

After building up full no claims bonus, but not long enough to pay for protected

no claims bonus

I have been the victim of a hit and run, whilst parked on the road

He got out inspected the damage jumped in his Range Rover and drove off

I have a witness who did not get the reg No and it is logged with the Police

The bill to me so far is to pay my excess, and the total bill is around £1200

Now would it be cheaper for me to pay the full bill myself and cancel claim

What I mean is when you have lost your no claims bonus does the insurance go

Back to a new policy OR

Back to a new policy with this person has made a claim. Then cost x more which over the next three years building up my no claims may cost more than the £1200

(My three year no claims bonus Fully Comp WAS £320)

I have now proved who it was to myself, put a note through the door on Police

stationary, with the information

Neighbourhood watch video available

Leaving the scene of an accident One years ban

Not providing insurance details up to £5000 fine

Must provide details within seven days or guilty of above (giving time to come clean before it costs him dear)

Ignored

Now ten days passed so I will have to take my own action, which will cost a lot

more than losing his No claims bonus ;-)

I ws told by an insurance company "even if you tell US you have had an accident fault/or not at fault the insurance premium will rise" (Not sure how true this is?)

Lets hope someone on here works in insurance and can give you the advise you need

If your insurance is going to go up anyway now that you have declared the accident then it might be better just paying the excess and then starting from scratch again.

I wrote my VRS SE off inside a week of owning it from new and my insurance on another one was actually lower, due to a change in job and another year of driving.

So if it costs you 300 excess then you've got 900 to spend on the next few years overpaying your insurance.

I would go with the claim. It's a Non Fault for a start which is considered to be lesser than if you'd managed it all on your own.

It's not classed as a non fault unless the money is recovered in full.

Your 3 years NCD will reduce to 1 year, usually 50% to 30%, so you won't lose all your bonus.

Given the amount of the damage, I suggest you claim through your insurance and pursue the third party via the courts. Insist on a forensic engineer being instructed to prove that the third party did cause the damage.

Also ask your insurers to check the Motor Insurers Database to confirm the third party was insured, and contact them.

Got Furby back, Saturday 09:00

Cracking job, all waxed.polished, and valeted. with a three year guarantee on the work undertaken

The local coach works (I live in Glenrothes ) that undertook the job, were very efficient from start to finish,

Yes I know it is their business, and it is what they are paid to do, but how many companies, do the job as good as the first month in business, once they are established. thumbsup
