Am I right in thinking that the current Nano uses flash memory rather than hard drive? We basically want to avoid having CDs in the car, particularly when on holiday. I'm thinking of an 8GB Nano to use in my new Fabia as it has the capability. I have looked at the Classic, but it looks like overkill for what I need.

Yes, that's correct. I personally prefer the nano because of the size and weight, it's thin and light enough to carry in a shirt pocket and because I sometimes use it while riding my motorcycle, that's important to me. The classic (or any other hard drive-base player) would be rather annoying under the tight safety jacket. That, and the fact that flash drives have no moving parts (less susceptible to damage when dropped, or at least so I imagine), made me go for the nano. But of course, storage-wise, you'd get more for your money with a hard drive player.

Thanks guys, you've all been really helpful.

iTunes works extremely well for this - you just rip all the CDs you want then create a playlist, drag the tracks/albums you want into it, and burn the CD. You choose what format you want the CD to be in preferences ("MP3 CD" is what you want) and it all happens automagically...

Remember to get the cddb data when adding alobums to iTunes and also to click the Album column to sort by Album before burning an mp3 CD, it will then create a folder per album on the CD which fits in with the way the Dance Radio/CD navigates folders and tracks.

If you don't you get allo the tracks in the root folder - which is fine if you're not putting whole albums on the CD.

I typically get 10 or more albums per CD - so there is no longer a need for a CD changer.

Symphony headunit in fabia 1 is actually quite good for a standard head unit. with 2 pre outs too.

Dance headunit is standard across range but '1' trim only has front speakers, can i connect rear speakers? and can i connect pre out adapter

I'm about to order a Fabia estate.

Your dealer should do an ipod interface for £99.99 + fitting. This will allow you to control your ipod using the radio's controls and also will charge it up while your drive so the battery should never run out 1 hour into your trip to the South of France...

There are only two things that I think let my car down one is the sound quality of Dance which doesn't really bother me as I am too old to put up with noise all day and the lack of a temperature gauge is the second one.

Damn just bought a new Fabia, and lack of a temperature guage is one thing that really annoyed me with that damn Vauxhall Corsa. (Among many other attributes, the Corsa did not appear to have a heater of any note during the winter, despite the dealer claiming everthing is OK)

I don't think you will have any trouble with the heater in winter.

Hello everyone!

I would like to know, how to find original car plug and speakers for my skoda fabia II, state. I've already buy an installed the double din dance radio, but not with the original plug from the factory. And I would be happy to get it with the speaker for the back passengers doors.

Does the basic cd radio in the cheapest fabia play MP3 cd’s or does it just have an mp3 player input?

Mine is the most basic level 1 trim with the Dance head unit as standard which plays MP3 cd's.

Great, thanks for that.

it always amuses me how people justify not buying a classic or a toach iPod, almost as amusing as a boxter owner talking about why his not got a 911. Ive got a classic (120gb) ;) and its smaller than my phone nokia n95, so not to sure what the issue is with space, but what i will say is its stupidly hard to change tracks why your driving! If you have lots of tracks like me, you end up wheelin threw your list for ages until you find what you need, which is dangerous when driving, always best to pull over :(

I use a Creative Zen M 30gb mp3 player. It's great. I set it to Random play, and if something plays I do not want to listen to at that particular time comes on one button press and it moves on to something else. It's only audible wallpaper anyway.

One problem with my Dance radio is that when it has the TP function working it frequently jumps over to Radio 3 and I was not aware that that station did traffic reports-I have never heard one anyway.
