Leaflets under Windscreen Wipers

Featured Replies

I feel the need for a little rant.....

If someone leaves an advertising leaflet under the windscreen wiper of my car is it legal?

Do they have the right to touch / move parts of my vehicle in that way?

I've always found this practice annoying, but even more so with the Octy II where the chances are they will have hit the bonnet with the wiper stalk while trying to lift it - the wipers need to be in the vertical position to allow the blades to be lifted off the screen.

AFAIK they MUST have the land owners permission to leflet drop.

Might be worth a complaint to the owner of where ever you were parked ;)

:iagree:

Don't have the bonnet problem, but leaflets under the wiper are a bl00dy nuisance all the same - you cannot just drop them on the ground so my jacket pockets are full of them...

Annoying isn't it , what sort of leaflet? If it was those earn £500 a month(scam) sort, would imagine that they would have not asked for permission.

In this case I was parked at the side of the road while watching my local footy team. The leaflet was from a near-by Focus DIY store.

I went into the store and asked for the manager but when the young lad on the customer service desk rang him and told him what the problem was he was suddenly tied up for the next 10 mins.

I did feel somewhat better after I had ripped the leaflet into lots of small pieces and scattered them over the floor, but just wonder if there are any other approaches that can be suggested.

LOL, then complain to Head office.

Cite some green issues, and littering and expect some store vouchers as compensation ;)

I have a chip in my bonnet thanks to something similar, unfortunately I've had several leaflets in the past and only recently noticed the chip so I don't know who the culprit was. :(

This isn't usually a problem for me, but last week while my car was parked at work (secure patrolled car park) someone thought it would be a great idea to leaflet drop the entire car park. What was even more annoying was that it turned out to be someone at work promoting an internal event :(

You're lucky: I have a foot-shaped dent in the bonnet of mine after a 'leaflet drop' - I can only presume that the Dukes of Hazzards were looking to earn a bit of extra cash...

Take off your wipers when you leave it, sorted

After writing the above on Sunday I got annoyed with them all over again, so I phoned them up and complained a second time.

Got a call back yesterday, and I've ended up with £15 worth of Focus DIY vouchers, so a result in the end.

It still pi$$es me off that companies do this - I'm going to declare war on anyone that does it in future.

To any leaflet posters out there - be warned!

so the lealet drop worked? they now have you in their store(ok with 15 quid discount) i love the unrecognisable ones that you find in the rain that are just multi coloured blobs of mush :thumbdwn:

Technicaly in my oppinion, its vehicle interference, which is an offence.

But, would it be in the public interest if I nicked 1000's of the little feckers every time I get a leaflet under my wipers?

Oooh, thats a can of worms opened...........................:sofahide: :peepwall:

I can assure you I will find something for £15 and not spend a penny more!

The initial offer was to go back to the particular store where the incident happened (about 30 miles away) and get a £15 discount off any purchase above £30. Needless to say I wasn't having that one.

i leave them in and let aero dynamics deal with the problem......

leave a note under the wipers ready saying "u touch, u die" ;)

LOL, only if you bring using CCTV, ANPR or similar into the mix ;)

:thumbup: Good idea! A laminated note, of course, so that if it rains it won't turn to mush!

Yep Brilliant idea your local police will ,love you.

If every leaflet drop is recorded as a seperate crime which it is, they can then catch the culprit (should have enough man power to do that) & then solve all the crimes in one go. That would do marvels for there statistics on solving crimes.

Now dont mock, its already been done, a young lad doing charity collections pocketed the money, recorded as over 200 seperate crimes & all solved in one go

Ah well. Thats the sort of thing I would have done in my probation.

To be honest , my enthusiasm as a police officer is draining away rapidly. We are getting dicked over by the government who want us to to do god knows what to meet stupid effing targets and the like, but they don't want to pay our yearly increase to our wages. 2nd year on the trot our pay negotiations have gone to arbitration!!!!

My div commander does not want to pay out overtime so have to run short on night shifts. She refuses to pay out for driver training appart from mandatory training,ie so we can drive a car at normall speeds.

6 years I have been applying to become a responce trained driver and all I get form the area trainging Sgt is " oh it costs £7000 to train a driver to that level, so we can save that amount of money"

Evidently thats the cost of an officers life or a member of the publics life if I cant respond to assist you on " Blues and Two's"

I sympathise with you

Every Policeman I have spoken to feels the same

Priorities seem to be

1. Targets

2. Cut Costs

3. Fight Crime

Cheers buddie.

I submitted a request the other week for............................you guessed it, responce driver training. An email advertised courses for 2008 / 2009 financial year.

I handed the paper work to my Inspector and the responce was......." Okay, I need to bulid up a business case now so you may not get any where with this when it goes to div HQ"

My responce, " How much is an officers life worth sir ?"

His responce " Well yes exactly "

Now, my Inspector is not to blame for this, in fact he is very supportive of driver training. He gets dicked over by the div commander as much as we do.

God I need a holiday!!!!!!!!! :mad::splat::cussing:

you not the only one mate, ive heard from many many officers the same story. even some that panda drivers havent even been train to drive at normal speeds.

Recently round here it was found out by local news that on some nights earlier this year there was only 2 rapid response/motorway units covering the WHOLE of Surrey!!!

Whilst I agree about the Gov messing up you guys, I do thing some forces are simply poor at planning pro-actively and tackling crime.
