Audi R8 - Has the bubble burst

Featured Replies

3 pages of R8's for sale on Pistonheads already & I believe theres only 300 in total coming to the UK, looks like a few greedy people might have got their fingers burnt & s/hand will soon be below list "as it should be"

Probably more worrying is possibly the guys with disposable income arent spending which is a sure sign the economy is about to go boobs up

Audi R8s for Sale

Not sure it isn't just that they're not selling for the same reason that the Phaeton wasn't successful - if you've got that sort of money to spend, the only VAG products you're only going to be interested will have either wings, a bull, or a red oval on the front! Not that the R8 or the Phaeton aren't brilliant cars, but badge snobbery rules OK in the Stockbroker Belt I reckon...

Seems like a lot of Audi dealers selling there Demo's for above list.

Don't think all the Hype has worked, If I had that sort of money to splash out on a car think it would need to be more "special" than an Audi.

Clarkson's comment on TG about them fetching a premium over list may have something to do with it. IMHO

More like there selling them to make a profit on a desirable car

when they go sub 50k let me know... will get one.

lets face it.. if i finally have to sucumb to 4wd there are worse ways......

Me too :) Just seems too much money for what it is currently...

How much are they supposed to be?

Personally the only way I heard of the thing was when it appeared on TG. Looked nice enough, but I imagine it's verrrrrrrrrry expensive...

Just under 80k for the basic car , then most people are likely to want about 5-10k of options.

Considering the performance is ahead of a 911 I think that's not an unrealistic price , and if I won the lottery I'd be more likely to visit an Audi dealer than a Porsche dealer. That said I'd probably take the slightly more sensible option and buy an A5 3.0TDI

Does anyone know which 911 it was compared to? I think it was a Carrera 2, but can't remember....

I think it was the Carrera 2 as well :)

But the "basic" 911s including the Carrera S and 4 are only about £70,000 new aren't they? Admittedly you would probably have a few extras on top but to me value & quality wise its pretty difficult to beat the 911 - and if the R8 is that much more I don't think its much of a contest  And if I won the lottery I would have the 911 turbo.

Ah - I thought it was supercar money :)

Ah - I thought it was supercar money :)

Nope. It's "very expensive car" money , but not in the same league as some of the (mostly italian) alternatives

Having had a C4S on a 24-hour test drive I can't imagine the R8 is actually worse.

i can't get my head round that, trying to decide upon a 2 seater petrol sports car the obvious sensible option is a diesel coupe

thats like being in the green grocers not sure whether to buy and apple or an orange so going out and buying a sofa

Did anyone else just see the R8 telly advert?

How bizarre.

yep :D

Came across a white R8 this afternoon.... almost missed my junction :D Very lush

Yep, seen the advert,

"The slowest car we've ever built"

I didn't get it.

You'll get arrested for that, and charged for a valet ;)
