Think i may have told this tale already but last xmas i was coming back from doing some xmas shopping when i cruised past the usual chavved up 206, this didnt sit well with him and immediatly he drove up my **** trying it on clearly not knowing what an octy VRS was......i decided to show him and that was that..206 what 206???????? nuff said!

I bought a Vrs Oct not really thinking about image as i liked the car and fell in love and also due to the fact that insurance for a scooby was £2k

I parked it randomly next to a scooby and was so distictly disappointed.

Every one takes the **** out of skodas even tho they are cool.

Went on a date yesterday and she took the **** all night about it !!!

I do like it still every time i look at it i just think i am shallow and care about what every one thinks!!

I hate having to try and talk people around especially when they drive something like a saxo!

You know people who believe there Saxo is better than your vRS Octy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your Octy is in a totally different league!

I find the Skoda 'image' not to be a problem anymore. As has already been said in this thread Skoda drivers are confident in themselves and don't need to hide behind the badge on their car..

I have had so many positive comments from people who stop me in the street to talk about my Skoda! This happened aswell when i had my Mk1 vRS.. People are visibly shocked/surprise when they see the Skoda badge.

last week a bloke was looking at my car and said ' you can't laugh at Skoda's anymore can you, I didn't realise it was one at first!!' He seemed rather enviouse of my Octy and a little embarrased as he got into his Toyota Yaris! Another similar example was when I asked a bloke about his car he said, '' my car, oh it's errr, only, errr just a Mondeo!!

C

Oooh - I've always liked them. Sorry for the slightly cheeky question, but are they any good?

In a word yes!!

The early ones got a bad image for having problems with the cylinder liners which tainted the car a bit. Mine has had the engine replaced by the factory so bonus. They are very quick and the handling is typical lotus. Better value than a ferrari too.

This is my second and they are everything a supercar should be.

Cheers

fook em there's nothing better than seeing the look on a bmw drivers face when you woop his ***

Would the Police drive the Octy Vrs if they were crap?? I dont think so!

they also drive astras...

Not as undercover traffic cars though :)

ROVER 75!! and He's taking the micky out of you!!!!

During my time of ownership i have had no bad comments about owing a Skoda.

My lad who used to own a Honda Prelude show car (Hond-r.com) shocked me by saying he preffers my Octy. Also a couple of weeks after getting my car i payed my sister a visit,

she liked the look of it and then asked for a test drive. Before i could even get in with her she was off and came back grinning from ear to ear (I LOVE IT). Two weeks later i get a call from her (guess what i've just bought)? My Mrs also love's it for the huge boot she try's to fill on shopping spree's.

they also drive astras...

And Vectras, Omegas, Accords, Imprezas, various Volvos, Beemers, 406s/407s...oh I see some of these have already been mentioned on this thread...

AFAIK, the police drivers don't get a say in which cars they drive and the contract is awarded to whoever can offer the best deal. Hampshire still have a lot of V70 traffic cars with several BM's being added to the fleet of late. A friend who works with people in a traffic unit says the Passat in the fleet is always picked over the vRS if they're allowed to chose. :D

This is the reason i drive a Skoda, because everyone thinks there ****, they soon change their mind once they see it!

The funny thing is my mates who took the **** of me for having jap crap! (Civic coupe) And think they no about cars take the mick a little but were pleasantly surprised at my choice in car, especially a TT owner!

Went to a VW meet yesterday up the A140 and i was the only SKODA there but yet no abbuse ( well at least not too my face)

I actually perfer it to a MK4 golf lol

By the way i have a civic coupe for sale...........

TBH if anyone still seriously thinks that Skoda's are a bad choice of car they really do need their head examining. Take off all the bits badged Skoda and everything left has a VW/AUDI logo stamped on it so what's wrong with that? To me that's a bloody good selling point: "Hello Sir, which car would you like? The Octavia estate or Passat estate? They are both the same except the Octavia is a couple of grand cheaper because the badge on the bonnet says Skoda." ;)

Given VW/Audi's ratings on reliability index and the like, it's mostly the image of driving a "cheap VW/Audi" rather than any guarantee of quality.

The Passat's a different platform to an Octy - you get better rear legroom in a Passat for starters!

Oh LOL.. is that the best it offers? I don't sit in the back, I just drive it so that's all that's important ;)

Passat also comes with a huge weight gain too :( which makes it properly lardy by comparison and hits the performance/handling as a result.

Where can one get their head examined and can it be done under BUPA? :D

But it is a nicer car for wafting down the motorway with four adult occupants...swings'n'roundabouts, chalk/cheese, etc.

Am inclined to agree on the "is that the best it offers" sentiment if the choice is purchasing a Golf over the (same platform) Octavia, as the only real advantage of the Golf seems to be that you can get more-than-4-cylinder engines in it...

ah.. fair enough if that's what you want it for..

tbh I'm only really interested in the vRS, I probably wouldn't be interested in the other models as I want more than an "ordinary" car. The vRS stands out from other stuff at the price purely by nature of it's capabilities in a performance/handling sense.

Purely my opinion, but theres heaps of cars available that are equally capable of wafting down the motorway, I don't see motorways very often ;)

I'll admit the Mondeo Estate was also on my shortlist when I was looking around and came a close second. And yes, I should have said Golf and not Passat. My bad, but you know what I meant.

Surely the VW equivalent to an Octavia is the Bora? So comparing it to the Passat is pointless as they're in the next grouping up from the Octavia?

Surely the VW equivalent to an Octavia is the Bora?

It depends how you're making the comparison...the Bora being a saloon, the boot opening is much smaller and the boot itself is a bit of a different shape...

Rob.

Bora/Golf4/Octavia are all the same platform (passat is a different platform although very similar size/shape to the Octy) - obviously all have got different facilities and behaviours - different people will find different aspects important :)
