Shell V-Power Diesel

Featured Replies

Is now available in Edinburgh. Seen it at Crewe Toll & Maybury.

And no i resisted temptation and filled with Extra, Can't justify the extra 5p per litre. How tight do i sound:cool:

Mine had never run so bad with that stuff.

I now buy the cheapo diesel and add millers of course :)

Not tight, sensible.

You will never get that 5p extra out of that litre.

too true mate... I've tried 3 tanks of V-Power, and nothing happened!

I filled mine with sainsburys diesel and put in some Millers Sport 4 about 150 miles ago - do you really start to see a difference at around the 250 mile mark as the bottle says?

Whats the craic with Millers guys? It is worth buying that much?

Out of interest, is the Diesel Extra labelled as such in Shell garages? We still haven't got it in my area :(

I have not seen any in petrol stations, Halfords stock it now though....if you don't see it then ask as they are only starting to place them on the shelves.

Ive used a couple of tanks, and cant really say ive seen any marked difference in any particular area.

I've been using Shell Diesel Extra as it was regularly 92.9p on my way to/from work sometimes 94.9p which was 4p a litre cheaper than the BP regular diesel. Don't know if I would pay the extra for V-power diesel tho. Would probabaly try one tank then go back to extra or normal Esso diesel.

I find running my vRS on V-Power makes the engine a lot quieter - I'd say about 15% quieter.

This is very noticeable at start-up.

I've tried the V-Power diesel on the continent in the past and never noticed any difference in performance or economy.

Total Excellium diesel on the other hand appears to be superb stuff !! I always see much higher mpg, almost no smoke at all and the car really seems to fly on it. Better than that it's normally only about 2-3p per litre more than regular diesel, which I'm more than happy to pay. Round my way V-Power commands an 8p premium

Generally my car runs better on Shell Extra or Total Regular than any other brands, but only Total Excellium is worth the extra IMO.

Quite partial to that myself

So you pay a extra 8p + to have a quieter engine ? or do you notice any power output ?

The fabia vrs is my first diesel car and if you ask me its very quite, I wouldn't be buying V-Power if I never got any extra power output.

The price of petrol/Diesel is getting high enough with out paying any more again to get a little more horses, or maybe it's just me and I'm a little tight with my cash that way :rofl:

Strange....I tried the V power diesel in mine a couple of times and have noticed a big difference within 5 miles...........it's nice but not worth the extra cash

I might stick a tenner of the stuff but not struck on shell diesel, I find Morrisons is much better and seem to get more miles to the gallon.

When I filled the car up last week it said 470 miles in the tank, when I go to shell I only get 455??

I ran my VX220 on V-power (petrol obviously!) for about 10 tanks full (2000 miles). I'm pretty anal and keep a record of all my fill ups.

It didn't make one single bit of difference to the mpg.

I also didn't notice any difference in performance, and it was reaonably highly tuned (full exhaust, sports cat, remap etc).

I've also used a full bottle of Millers in my Golf, and again noticed zero difference in economy or performance.

I reckon performance fuels are a bit of a con for 99% of cars on the road. Having said that I may still try the V-power diesel in the Golf for a few tanks

To those who are saying "I'll try it for a tenner" or "I'll put a tank in" thats just throwing your money away. With these things you need a good few tanks to get any benefits from the cleaning agents or for the ecu to 'learn' from the different fuel.

You're doing better than me.

When I tried V Power Diesel for 2,500 miles the engine was never more than 11.5% quieter.

But seriously, the one thing that stood out was how the MPG got WORSE with every tankful.

With Shell Diesel Extra I was getting 45-47 MPG,over 15,000 miles.

With V Power Diesel it started off with 44 MPG then got worse with each tankful, eventually returning 39 MPG.

3 tankfuls of Shell Diesel Extra have each returned 44-46 MPG.

And the power characteristics/smoothness/noise differences are negligible, especially with Rammstein on full blast.

What I want to know is how you worked out that your engine was 11.5% quieter?!?!?!

perhaps if you re-read the next bit in his post...

So true, normal derv for me too.

Well I've just gone back to my normal mix of Millers + Diesel Extra after having a tank full of V Power in there. To be honest the V Power seemed to make the engine run smoother and my mpg was up on motorway runs by 1-2mpg.... no difference in performance however (didn't expect there to be)... not very scientific I know but just thought I'd share it

If anyone wants Shell V-Power, I've just seen this offer on HotUKDeals (HotUKDeals - Main Page).

"Try out Shell V-Power @ the price of normal Unleaded on Wednesday 24th Oct**"

**only valid between 8am to 8pm on Wednesday 24th October.

This was seen at a petrol station near Aberdeen, but it may be worth checking out your local Shell.

I'd occasionally fill my Mazda with V-Power ULP noticeable improvement mid range. Also surreptitiously stuck a tank full in swmbo's Ignis (feeling silly that day). She drove it a couple days later and all i got was "What did you do to my car". Trying out Millers slight improvement in consumption approx 1-2 mpg. Main difference is less smoke.
