Insurance Renewal

Featured Replies

Got my insurance renewal quote thru from Elephant.

Coming in at £341.25 for the Octy vRS, fully comp, protected NCB (13 years according to Elephant ), etc.

I thought this was a wee bit high so shopped around, phoning various companies.

When I phoned Elephant themselves, they managed to get it down to £325 - still high imo.

I went thru an online quote using Cheap UK Car insurance and home insurance quotes comparison from Confused.com. and lo and behold Elephant came up the cheapest...at £252!!!

So I phoned them again and told them I had entered my details correctly thru Confused - they said they'd look into it.

Just had a phone call back saying that the quote was correct and they will honour the price so managed to get it for £252 which is more like it for an old codger like me :D

It might be worth trying confused.com yourself if your renewal is due anytime soon.

Something very similar happened with SWMBO's policy - the quote generated on a price comparison site came back as being much lower than the renewal quote, and apart from the 10% new business discount which they wouldn't give her ( ), they matched the price. Still worked out cheaper than onyone else we could find, so pretty happy all-in-all!

I got my insurance renewal through for my Fabia and just changed to direct line who got me a deal of £323.00 with 6 years no claims and me being 24 years old.

This is £50 cheaper to insure than my ford focus 1.6 I had before which was modded.

My renewal from Bell was £502 and there was no way I was going to pay that, phoned around and the most expensive i got was £700 from the aa.

Went online and Direct Line quoted £323 so took it.

This is with one aditional driver on the policy.

Has car insurance gone up big time this year? I know some who has a Fiesta 1.2, his insurance company, More than, renewal was a shade over £300 when last year he only paid around £200. (No he hasn't made any claims at all). He shopped around and got a quote for £206.

I had my renewal notice a few weeks back and tried confused.com and quotations were about the same price or even higher, so thought stick with the same insurance co. for another year.

I went through moneysupermarket.com, a number of companies phoned me off the back of this including Adrian Flux who allowed mods, thats who I am with now.

Elephant are not bad for mods.

I have my wheels declared, but previously insured a Honda Prelude thru them with suspension/exhaust/carbon bonnet/rear wing/brakes/induction kit upraded and whilst I had to pay suplements for them, they still insured me fine.

I went through Confused aswell.

Was actually shocked when the Octy cost me more than my Impreza did for insurance.

Think i'm paying £380, which i consider quite high.

you think thats bad, next door they are trying to find insurance for a 18 year old girl so she can buy a 1.0 matiz.

guess how much the most expensive quote was???

7 grand fully comp!!!!!

thats more than the cost of the car!!!

the cheapest???

1300 quid a year!!!!!

for a poxy 1 litre base model matiz, and its in group 1e for insurance!!!!

Thats rediculous :(

Thought the £800 quote I had for a Vauxhall 1.0 Corsa was bad , really how can one insurance company quote way over the top prices and most return reasonable prices, must be how their systems are setup.

Damn it, you guys make me sick!

Just renewed for my Fab vRS. 26 yr old accountant. Clean licence since I was 17, no accidents ever, 1 yr NCB.

£530 after a lot of shopping around!!!

I know I only have 1 yr NCB, and a naff postcode, but the wrong side of £500, for a Fabia!!!! Please!!!!!!!!!

Mine was over £700, so count yourself lucky!

(I think the Dragon Box and the mega annual mileage had a lot to do with that, though... :o)

Ive just re-newed my insurance...

Felicia 1.3

21 years old

6 points on license

3 years NCD

just short of £600 fully comp! (those pesky points... will be gone end of this year!)

Some insurance co's do that if they have had a run of claims from a particular type of driver and/or car. They don't want the business but rather than refuse to quote altogether they give a price that you won't accept.

This is actually to the girl's advantage because if they had refused altogether she would always have to answer Yes to that question "have you ever been refused insurance".

Of course if she had been willing to pay the £7k they would have gladly taken it!
