I know this has been covered before somewhere but I can't find it! I'm going to need a front pair of "standard" 16" tyres soon for my 2.0FSI and I'm more interested in quietness than ultra high grip performance these days! Which makes are reckoned to be good for low road noise?

After the loud factory bridgestones I've had Kumho KH-11s and Michelin Primacys and they've been considerably better. I think I paid 50 a corner for the Kumhos and 75 a corner for the Michelins (fitted).

Not sure what size they do but michelin pilot sport are good and quiet.....but a bit expensive

Avoid Dunlop Sport SP 01's.

They are very noisy and wear out quickly. I have a 1.9 TDI and do not drive the car hard.

I found a Kumho place in Brighton - might give them a go. £52 each fitted

Falken 452, grippy and quiet and seem to be lasting well in 205/55/R16 they are £60 a corner fitted.

If that's for the KH-11s, that sounds like a good price for the South East. I was pleased with mine, I had them on my previous car too. Only reason I went for the Michelins this time instead was for the convenience of having them fitted at Costco right next to my office (Costco only do Michelins). The Michelins might be a bit better at not understeering in the wet.

I live in Malaysia and driving 2.0FSI Octy...for Malaysia weather and road condition, I personally prefer Michelin tires..Previously my car is fitted with Good Year NCT 5, and my other car is fitted with Michelin MXV8...comparing these two, I prefer Michelin because it's quieter and better in wet condition but did not last long compared to Good Year tires.

after the same thing fella. my octy came factory fitted with conti eco-contact 3s, are wearing well (18k on the clock and i reckon they'll do for another few k) but can be a bit noisy.

chap at my local tyre depot said he had some pirellis (195/65/15) that are low-noise, did 'nt say which model though.

If they are anything like the Pirelli on the cars I have driven (p6/p6000 etc) they are noisy as anything.

I am fairly certain that the pilot sport are not available in 205/55/R16 but the Pilot Exalto 2 are.

Conti and Bridgestone are from my experience really noisy, they certainly were on the previous and this car.

Again, for the price I think the falken 452 is a really good quiet tyre and the 512 is even cheaper if you don't want a sportier tyre.

Weird - I do a lot of miles, and the Pirelli P6000s I've had on previous cars (including a Octavia 4x4 with 205/55/16s) and a Fabia 2.0 Petrol have both been quiet and good value 'honest' tyres.

On a previous car running on 205/50R16s I changed from Pirelli P6000 (albeit worn) to Conti Premium Contacts and there was a marked reduction in noise.

The handling didn't feel quite as direct, but it was worth it for the peace on the motorway. I found the high pitched drone of the Pirellis tiring.

Conti obviously not cheap though. The recent Autoexpress Tyre Test showed only marginal differences between best and worst, but that was measured in a Passat, which I guess is well proofed.

My other pet hate with p6000 is that on various cars both in my family and belonging to friends all the p6000 that i directly know about have been replaced due to the side wall `egging`. Some of these were inner side walls too, which doesn't fill me with confidence.

Another vote for goodyear NCT 5 here, Just had them fitted after the originals lasted 38,000, they grip and are very quiet

I have a Octavia 1.9 TDI estate with 205/60/15 VR Dunlop sport & these are noisey, cant wait to replace them, have been told firestones are good.

Fitted BF Goodrich G profile to my 1.9 tdi , as the test results on My Tyres showed a very good wet and noise review . I have had them for near 20k now and they are very quiet and a lot better than the original Bridgestones . Cost about £70 each fitted , would recomend .
