1.9 versus 2.0 OCTAVIA TDI

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I have not posted on this forum for quite a while, I did have a Fabia vRS until I sold it earlier this year as I needed to replace it with something larger.

I have decided to purchase an Octavia estate TDI but I cannot decide whether it is really worth paying the extra money for the 2.0 litre version with the 6 speed box over the 1.9 with the 5 speed. I know the 1.9 can be easly remapped to give extra power, but I do not know whether having the 6 speed box gives the car a more relaxed crusing ability.

Your collective thoughts/experiences would be much appreciated.

Welcome back to Briskoda.

Not sure on your query but one of the guys here will try to help.

I think if you could stretch to the 2.0 then it would be worth it.

Hello and welcome - there have been a few similar discussions in the past.

I went for the 2.0TDi, but coming from a MK 1 Octy vRS estate with 180HP this was already a drop for me. So I guess to some extent it depends what you are coming from.

Are you aware that the 1.9 TDI engine in the Octy II (assuming that is what you are after) is not the 130bhp version that you had in the Fabia vRS - it only puts out 105bhp

I tried both and bought the 2 litre, the extra bhp and the 6th gear make for great cruising with good MPG.

Welcome back :)

I went for the 2.0TDi unit too. Smooth, refined and powerful, the 6 speed box is a nice gearbox too. :)

On the downside it isn't as economical as the PD105 1.9TDi version, but we're talking probably around 5mpg less economy . . . and you're getting a lot more power and an extra cog in return. :)

Hi all ,

I've got the 1.9TDi PD 105 HP with 6 speed box on the 4x4 fabulous averages 50+ / gallon on a run and has all the grip in the world !!!!

Driven a few of both engines .....if you can afford it go for the 2.0 L it's a step up from the 1.9 and so much better and easier to drive

The road tax on my Passat 1.9 TDI (105) is £165, I thought it would have been the cheaper amount going by the CO2 figures in the brochure but on the V5 it just makes it into the higher bracket.

Same engine as the Octy so should be the same CO2 classification!

eh if your refering to the 1.9 to the 2.0 they both have the same tax brarcket of 115 PA

go for the 2.0 if you can afford it. its a better drive, got way more get up and go. Yes you can repmap the 1.9 up, but why bother spending 300-500 on a remap when you can put that towards the 2.0 in the first place and get a extra cog too!! :)

plus imagine what a remap will do to the 2.0

Agreed, got the 1.9TDI (105bhp) in my Golf. Its a decent engine, but you'll miss that 6th gear after having a VRS ..... If you can afford it go for the 2.0TDI

My 2.0 is in the cheaper tax bracket (120 quid now I think).

I had a 1.9 as a courtesy car recently and it was nice enough but nothing special. It wasn't slow but I really missed the extra power that the bigger engine gives you , and no sixth gear was annoying.

I'd spend the extra for the 2.0

My 2.0TDi Elegance is way cheaper than £165.
