Alonso leaves McLaren

Featured Replies

I wonder who will look to fill his seat at McLaren? I imagine it will be tough to get people who want to be Lewis' team mate!

Chris

No tougher than getting people to be Schumi's team mate was though!

Hmm - mabie another brit?

The Stig

Alonso is not allowed to drive for a works team next year!

Red Bull it is then!

who said he can't drive for a works team? i thought it most likely he was headed back to renault...

(both redbull drivers have contracts for next year, unless they would do a swop with DC.... more likley that (if he can't drive for a works team) williams, and nico rosberg in at mcclaren....)

I also heard Ron Dennis was gonna sue him for breach of contract, and see if he doesn't have to pay him anything for this year! lol... that would fill some of the fine from the spying case ;)

TalkSport ;)

Kovalainen or Rosberg are obvious and much rumoured new Mclaren drivers.

I'd expect a Kovalainen - Alonso swap myself.

good riddance :D

This is on the BBC web site!

Alonso is free to join another team in 2008, and his agent said neither party would pay a financial penalty.

Red Bull and Renault are the favourites to sign him, and BBC Sport understands Red Bull are the more likely option.

I can't see where he fits in with Red Bull unless it's one of the Torro Rosso cars.

He'll be back at renault.

Flavio's keen to polish his ego, and get renault back on top.

Flavio has been very quiet lately. Could mean one of two things -

He's keeping out of it and lying low.

or

They'd already brokered a deal.

I’m free, do you think I should give Ron D a ring? Would he let me call his car Willberpog? It would be a deal breaker as far as I am concerned.

Im sure Lewis might have a problem with his *** being handed to him on a plate by a lady driver ;)

Perhaps it would be kindest of me to opt out of the spare seat, purely to spare his blushes you understand.

Besides I hate having helmet hair. (this posting has the new ‘Anti-misquote Engine Protection software’ fitted.)

RON DENNIS:

“Everybody at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, especially McLaren’s Spanish Partners Banco Santander and Mutua Madrileña and the team’s title partner Vodafone, want to wish Fernando all the best for the future."

Remove all the name-drops of the sponsors and Ron Dennis's parting words for Alonso don't really add up to much, do they?

Yes! :D

He was a bit of a *****!

I have to say that I am soooo looking forward to next season. There could be 4 teams with competitive cars and around 8 drivers going for the title. Neeeeeooooooooooooooooooowww

Apparently Ralf asked if he was in the frame for the Macca seat, and was told "NO!!".

Now Alonso can go and find a team which will give him the "special help" he apparantly needs to win a championship!

I would love to see him at Williams but I don't think thats gonna happen.

I like this quote:

"What about McLaren bringing Michael Schumacher out of retirement?" he said. "Michael's still fit - and probably bored. I suspect he has found sitting on the pit wall dull."

I heard on Eurosport that he was going testing the 2007 Moto GP bikes on Monday & Tuesday with the Media. Seemingly Gerhard Berger is also doing it, as he's doing work for a Motor Bike Magazine.

I wonder if they went for a burn up with Stavros, and, if so, who "won"?
