Talex Elite

Featured Replies

Mines arrived, Stu's has arrived, just off out now to try it out as i havent been in from work long. will try and give it a go tomorrow at work to (as i drive for a living) and come back with a quick review.

When I first saw it I thought the remote control was a gimmick but actually I can see the point of it now.

yeah saves hanging over the dashboard pressing buttons.

Right my update is as follows:

Seems much better than that talextt1 crude i got on the tomtom. On long stretches of road where there is more than one mobile camera site it stays lit to warn you (unlike the tomtom version). The milegae thing is pretty accurate, the date and time work and also has a top speed that you have achieved hidden away ;)

You can also set it up for the type of vehicle you are driving be it a lorry, bus, car or towing a trailer as each class has different speed limits on different roads and this seemed to have been implimented well (i drive vans and lorries for a living).

Warnings seem to be pretty good, all fixed cameras and red light cameras spot on. Mobile ones can often warn to early (which is good) and a couple of times a bit late for my liking but still good.

Has other warnings you can turn on or off on the device including sharp bends, accident blackspot, steep hills (think this is aimed at lorry drivers) and a safety camera partnership warning which i did think was pointless as most mobile sites are where these scamera partnerships are normally parked.

the device is nice and light and clear to read, loud (volume can be adjusted along with brightness).

There are many other things on there but im still going through them. only down point is now update available, but due in the next week. Oh and 2 cameras which i reported to not having the correct speed limit are still to be updated :(

Anyone interested in one give vrstu a shout as he is a reseller of the talex devices!!

Just an update, who else has one apart from me and stu?

guilty

anyone want to buy a talex :D

Didn't read this thread before getting one from ebay, it hasn't arrived yet but it's on it's way.

Only a slight change but I preferred the voice on the original one.

ive noticed even more today that the vehicle option is more of a gimmick than of help, to many single track A roads seem to be classed as if they were Dual carraigeways in light goods mode :(

Any news on an update yet?

How is that screen in bright sunlight ;)

Mine's just turned up :)

(found this thread via Google search while trying to find out about updates!)

Mine didn't come with an install CD or anything - is this normal guys? And the manual doesn't mention anything about updates?! So, is the update service available yet?

Cheers,

Steve

No CD came with mine either, I presume it's like most things these days where you download the update utility from the manufacturer's site.

The update utility doesn't appear to be working yet and i've already noticed a few holes in the database.

TalexElite

The screen is excellent even in broad daylight and I am more than impressed with the overall performance of the unit. 2 friends are already ordering them based on a look at my unit.

Cheers - no problem with the download bit, best to get the latest version of the software anyway. Just thought I'd check... :)

Just been to the website. Why they need another one, separate to talex.co.uk I do not know!

Update program link doesn't work though?? I was just curious to see what it was like, I know there's no updates out yet.

But it's a new toy, and I'm impatient :D

I know what you mean, I was so keen to fire it up I slapped the magnetic pad on the dash without taking into account the power plug on the R/H side of it and the big A-pillar type thing right next to it

Haha, we've all done things like that :D

nope its a MAN, the only ones in the fleet with cubby holes, but horrid suspension/airspring seats that bounce you around on every bump.

I spent a couple of days driving a MAN 4 wheeler fridge wagon and I agree not the most comfortable I've ever driven.

i prefer my old iveco, certainly great response and gear range and more comfy on the backside.
