:rubchin: Uh?

Anyway, the cars back (again!), and the bills paid. Total cost was a bum quivering £644

This consisted of a sensor, a themostat, a charge for computer diagnostics, water pump (metal impellor), cam belt kit which includes the tensioners, etc., antifreeze, a chuff load of labour, and probably even the water to fill the system up again !!

:moon: to Skoda reliability !

Bloody hell thats expensive.

Depends what sensor had gone i suppose.

I think perhaps the labour stung me a bit! The breakdown is as follows:

Computer diagnostics = 45.00

Temp Sender = 28.74

Thermostat Kit = 19.99

AntiFreeze = 8.94

Waterpump = 49.78

Cam Belt Kit = 158.94

Labour charge = 240.00

Plus VAT !!

Computer diagnostics = 45.00

Just goes to show how much you save with vag-com.

Yeah, and the real pi$$ser is that I have a VAGCOM cable and software. It just happened so quick, that I never had the chance to use it :(

I would be more worried about the cam belt and water pump price

Not meaning to rub it in or nothing !!:)

Yeah, is that gold plated or something?

I have my receipt here from Skoda for mine.

Cambelt kit £75.00 and Waterpump £25.80

I always like these type of posts!

So, apart from some pretty serious failures, it's been faultless:confused: ;)

My Superb was a bag of Sh*te but we have others that have been fine, the MK1 Octavias on the fleet are generaly pretty reliable apart from an unhealthy addiction to eating gearboxes, but the MK2 Octavias are woefully unreliable and seem to have all been built by un-trained monkeys using parts that come out of the 'failed quality control, but we'll stick em in anyway' bin.

Skoda are due to take a massive tumble in all these surveys, and if they dont i'll eat my hat! *looks for eat my hat smilie* (you'd think of all those smilies i'd be able to find one eating a hat:rolleyes:)

:iagree:

I don't believe any new VAG car deserves the reputation for reliability they trade on that came from previous generations of car (eg MK II/III golf)

Also...Temp sender at £28 !!

You can buy them new for £15, sometimes less.

Blimey all these problems you lot are talking about arent even real problems!

These little fitters jobs like cambelt and coil packs are nothing really if you look at the big picture.

It's too easy to get depressed about your car when things go wrong. I know, I've been there!

We need a councelling group!

Too true !

I've spent more on my Octy vRS in little bits and bobs since i bought it in July, than i did in 2 years of ownership of my Impreza !

GUYS WHAT IS THIS VAGCOM CABLE?WHAT DOES IT DO?,HOW MUCH ARE THEY AND WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED? I KNOW IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH READING FAULT CODES...THANKS GUYS

You hook the cable in between the diagnostic port on the car and a laptop and some software to speak to the ECU is the easiest way to put it.

Thanks Liverpool-lad,is It Expensive

Dougie,

the actual software is free to download, but you'll need to buy a cable.

From there you have 2 choices,

1. Cheap cable from Ebay or similar, which will only give you limited functions for around £15

2. Buy the genuine cable direct from Ross-Tech which will give you a fully working Vag-com. Am sure it was "around £100" could be more.

thanks johnny, think i'll go for that after christmas,£100.00 probably best bet.

No probs.

There was a group buy a few months back, if you do a search you'll get an idea of prices, and how to use it.

I've just got the basic cheap cable, which is fine for what i need it for.

Also, if you're stuck, i'm sure there's a sticky thread with a location map for members with Vag-com that could maybe help you if you dont have it.

:)

What about the damn cat did it die quickly or did everyone just drive past leaving it to have a slow death, if thats true hope they die the same horrid way.

Fu##ing hate people like that, makes me so mad

Google, and the search button here and on others (such as tdiclub.com) are you friends and will reveal all.... It's a way of talking to the car computers with a laptop computer.

Done all of this recently more than once. My prices were:

Diags £25

Temp send £25

Thermostat £8

Antifreeze £8

W/pump £20

Cambelt kit £120

Labour £180 (no vat on labour as I'm under threshold)

I wouldn't say you have been ripped off to pieces, but I'd say that there is better value out there. I konw I'd have charged a good couple hundred less and I'm sure others out there must also be able to do likewise.

Greg.

Me too. Unfortunatly, I was at the wrong side of a 3 lane busy road. To stop would have put myself in danger, and probably caused a bit of a pile up. Had I got the chance, i would have either taken it to a vet (over the road from me), or put it out of it's misery (wheel wrench). It was quite distressing to see. My wife was most upset. Still blame the tw@ that kept a cat in the built up city though.

Wow £75 for a cambelt kit, is that t? Is it a real kit, eg does it contain the tensioner and ALL the idle rollers, not just a cambelt and tensioner? Cheapest I can get a full kit is over £100 trade.

Greg.
