Wow £75 for a cambelt kit, is that t? Is it a real kit, eg does it contain the tensioner and ALL the idle rollers, not just a cambelt and tensioner? Cheapest I can get a full kit is over £100 trade.

Greg.

Thats what my invoice says (cambelt/tensioner/pulley wheel).

I bought my Vrs about 4 month ago, within that time i have spent approx 3k, £600 of that has gone on a re-map,de-cat and a few other performance parts but... the rest has gone on repairs, its a 53 reg with high motorway miles, first thing to go on it was front brakes, then the clutch finally gave up after the first 5 days of me buying the car. then i had the same problem as described on here of over heating when under strain eg... driving uphill and putting my foot down a little, that turned out it was the water pump, that only cost me about £27 so i also changed the cam belt which cost me about £42. the car drove good after that for about 2 week when driving on the motor way, i started getting a really bad wobble on the front wheels, so as you do i had the wheels balanced and the tracking done, as soon as i pulled out of the garage the steering wheel went to the left while driving straight, i ended up taking the car back for the tracking to be done for the third time. it turned out to be the rear bushes on the front wishbone, they were only £13 for both, then gearbox completly went on me, one of the shaft end bearings actually smashed its way through the casting to where the clutch is, so not only a new gearbox but a new clutch to where it got covered in oil. not i have a blowing exhaust and the rest of the bushes need changing,

to say there part of vag they seem to be really unreliable and its put me off for life, im gonna sell it and get a jap car instead.

If it had high miles to start with and you start modding the engine its not inconceivable things will go wrong. Have you had a large turbo conversion to hit 294bhp?

Like any car, if its been looked after itll look after you. Ive had mine for a year and bar a coilpack go squiffy its been supremely reliable

As Liverpook-lad said...you must've got a bigger turbo conversion on, probably not wise if it were a high mileage to start with.

Would be interested to hear what mods you have for your 294. :)

Can I please ask a question???

In an earlier post (257) in the thread "JUST GOT ANNIHILATED BY A FOCUS ST", you said that you had just spent nearly £2500 for another 114BHP, this being on a remap, decat, induction and a few other parts.

Now you say that you have only spent £3000 with only £600 on the remap, decat and a few other parts with the rest (£2400) going on repairs, so how do you get 294 BHP for £600 ????

As most of us on here have spent a lot more than £600, and got nowhere near 294bhp, and, as others have stated, you must have a bigger turbo, as the KO3s will struggle above 240bhp, and then runs out of breath.

So, what is the real bhp of the car, with a rr graph to prove ???????

Not having a go, just very interested to see where I have to go with my £600 to get the same figures as you quote, and I dare say there will be a queue???

I'll enjoy this one later ..........:rofl:

I dont think I'd enjoy driving it on standard shocks and brakes though...LOL

Hence the shopping trolley line in the siggy

Sorry "trollet" whatever that is.

Go Gerry Go !!!!!!

Well how much have you spent, and got nowhere near that figure?????

As I said, I'm not having a go, just very interested to find out what we wasted our money on, as he obviously knows a much cheaper way to high BHP figures??????

maybe its just a typo and is meant to read 249bhp, which still isn't possible really. just an over reading dyno.

Not a typo, profile says 284bhp.

do you think that the reason so many people are now having problems with mk 1 vrs is because

1 so many of them have been heavily modified and altered from original spec

2 because previous owners have kicked the absolute sh** out of them, we have all read the posts.

what's the opinion?

My vRS was bought new by me. Modified (as per the sig) to the figures below. Regularly serviced (by the tuners). Regularly well thrashed, including trackdays.

Now 3 years old, 36000 miles.

Faults: front wheel bearing (replaced under warrant). Faulty Lambda probe - turned out to be a bad connection. That's it. :D:D:D

Best car I've ever owned :thumbup:

Remember when I took you out for a spin in my Octavia vRS? Down your lane towards your house aka private road? aka M25?

I took it to the tuner for £2,500 for bolt on mods and a remap, and left with 295bhp.

Then do you remember me racing that pig with wings down the M25 towards ..................... *Runs*

I have had my vRS from new in 05 and there wouldnt of been a prob with it if I hadn't had it remapped. now it is standard it is fine apart from a few probs from the aftermath.

once again I think the vRS is an ace car for the money.

I am also very picky, the random little rattles that apear then you cant find them, also the boot in the rain and the fact the water ****es in off the lid. (just dont go in the boot in the rain)

In conclusion, dont **** wi the car and look after it and she wont go far wrong(I hope)

The Octy vRS is a very good car, with a strong engine and the capability to take a lot of tuning before it really starts to object.

The biggest problem is that to get the best out of a vRS, the first mod should be the suspension and brakes, and in standard mode with those mods its a different beast for realistic money.

You then have the choice to go big turbo and the potential problems that go with that, or stay with realistic mapping and modding, and retain the car as a fast everyday reliable drive.

The figures quoted by some tuners are just the carrot in front of the donkey, and as we all know you will never see the quoted figures, so the incentive is always to throw more money at the car to try for these figures.

Personally I dont think that a reasonable degree of modding has any detrimental effect on the long term reliablity of the Octy vRS, in fact doing mine has improved the fuel consumption, the handling, and the driveabilty of the car, its still used as an everyday work horse.

Its a 2001, that I bought from new, and I still love driving it.

On the strenth of this new info I have first dibs on another Octavia (REAL) vRS.

Where/who do I pay my £600 to get 294bhp please. :D..........waiting!!!

Count me in.

and me(if it works fine with no fault codes apperain)
