hi from a scottish skoda virgin

Featured Replies

hi to all

my wife has just bought a ex demo silver fabia 1.4 tdi from the NEWMARKET GARAGE BANNOCKBURN ( The best customer service, EVER in 42 years of buying cars) and it is brilliant!! we got a set of sixteen " aloys to start of our 'modding' but she says thats as far as we go................yeeehh !

she was down sizing after 'retirement' from a honda 2.0 accord sport, a first class car, with all the toys but expensive to run.

the fabia is,

quick when needed,

quiet when listening to music,

fantastic on fuel,

comfortable on long and short drives

easy to wash due to the size (and colour)

first class value for money( sorry we did not do it sooner)

oh and yes, only £35.. road tax ( we we must live up to the scots stereotype )

now so we dont appear to be OLD in mind ( ok the boddies sh**, but you should have seen it in the 60's ( the era not the age) i should say my other cars consist of a heavily modded mgf with a 235 bhp modified honda type 'r' engine transplant which has travelled through europe extensively with annual trips to the 'ring for the last five years. the other is a mgb gt v8 preproduction ex police car (just a long legged lazy v8 that shifts)

back to the FABIA a truly understated car, ticks all the boxes with a first class service backup in fact THE national car of SCOTLAND.....LOYAL, RELIABLE, UNDERSTATED AND A CHEAP RUNNER......:)

sorry about the post length

Welcome :)

Welcome Silverslug.

I used to be into MGs, had 2 BGTs and used to run the website for the Edinburgh MG Club.

would like to see some pics of your cars if you have any!

Cheers,

StevenH

Welcome to the site, glad you are happy with your new car. Or should that be SWMBO's new car, or will that become a divisive issue in the relationship?

Don't forget that when it comes to the modding the new acquisition, at least one of you promised to "love, honour and obey".

hi and welcome to briskoda...

hi stevenh,

if you can follow this my cars are on the csmgf web site. i am trying to get my own web site up on my mac.

go to CSMGF Home Page then to members cars, then to gerry hiorns. the latest pics of th 'f' are the ones at the bottom at the falkirk wheel. the police car is going upfor sale as i only get time for a few hundred miles a year driving in it.

the 'f' just flys anywhere anytime.....:)

if you go onto 'other outings' and into the nurburgh 07 you can see the #f# on the ring ( only track pics i have but plenty of videos elsewhere) the small blue polo following blew me away on the coners. he had a top speed 90mph , but that was in the corners as well, great car greater driver.

i hope to rig out the fabia with my mini cams and get it on the track next year with no mods apart from the skoda alloys and the mini cams:):)

thanKs to the others for the kind welcome and your right the silverslug is causing matrimonial problems already..." i dont want a SKODA, and no way a smelly noisey diesil" to " use your own cars, you might kerb my new car:eek:" and "this driveway is not big enough for both of us"

welcome :)

the 3-cylinder engines sound awesome when you rev them!

Hi from a fellow Scot.

Hiya.

If you enjoyed your purchase experience, why not make a post in the "Dealer Reviews" section next? (No connection with Newmarket Garage or any other dealership.)

welcome,so you recomend newmarket then?

Did you ever take the V8 to Doune?

I remember seeing a police style V8 that used to park with the Fife bunch, and the number plate rings a bell!

The 'F' looks like it means business ;)

welcome to BRISKODA

Welcome to Briskoda.

Davy

yes , that was in the good old days when the classic meets were the place to be. don't go much anymore , apart from the scone show.thats why i am going to sell it. the car should really be out and about more. i take it to the emergency truckfest at ingleston in august but not much more.

the 'f' is something else. we have changed just about everything from the engine, down to the ceramic pads. its a real pussycat . it purrs about town in 6th at 30mph but can go from the same to 150+ without changing a gear or missing a beat (in germany , of course) 4th gear is to die for ( maybe not the best statement, all perfectly safe) the concept was to build a car capable of driving the 'ring then to nip down to aldi's for the weeks shopping. on a run round the top of scotland it returned an average of 41mpg but on the track the best we could get was about 9mpg

hi

thanks for all the welcomes. you are trully a friendly site.

onto a couple of updates.

the car.

.. now had it a couple of weeks and i can honestly say i cannot fault this car .i was concerned about the drum rear brakes i.e .. would they support my style of driving. no problems at all ,a good setup on the system, well balanced and no sense of brake fade ( but will change to red ceramic pads for the track when i can find them)

seats , well being used to the track seats and harness on the 'f' i though the skoda seats would not be that comfortable on long journeys and some of the great flowing scottish roads ( just done the b9002 to nairn in the silverslug and it was first class). i can say it is the only car ( bar the 'f' , but that is set up special for me alone) i have driven in the past 10 years that has left me feeling ' i have only been in the car for a few miles' they dont look sporty but by god they do their job in a first class way

onto your forum

it is a credit to the producers and the members equally.

i have not found the 'pecking order ' mentality that is sported on other marque forums. the ability to draw in members from many other counties and give space for their varried views without the childish sarcasim of ' he has only got a *******, so i am better than him because i have a ****** does not appear to exist here. your tech info is as varied as people request from carpets to ecu changes again without the ' are you thick' replies.

so hears to the continuing BRISKODA forum formula, long may it continue

gerry h:thumbup:

ps do you have a liking for in car videos. i use mini cams on the car to record roads / runs/ tracks.? is there a place you can post to ?

just a thought

On the first point, I know people who think that rear discs are pretty much pointless unless you have a mid or rear-engined car, because, with the dynamic weight transfer under braking, the fronts do 80 to 90% of the work.

On the second, thank you.

On the PS, if you have a video hosting account, or are prepared to put them on youtube, do that, then link back to them from here.
