Nice pictures above john  you did it good style on that one :D Those pieces of metal that were off the disc are there to take up the initial drive of the clutch as the pressure plate and the drive plate clamp together. You may aswell try to bolt the clutch to the DMF before installation, as im sure you can mount it all as one unit.

I posted 3 sachets of grease out to you today aswell. You only need to use 1 of them, but the other 2 can be for spares. Ive also put a brief description of what you need to do aswell.

Good job your replacing the DMF too as id imagine it was in a bit of a state after the metal running around inside of it.

Good luck, and if you need any help or any advise just pm me, and ill give you my works number for the technical department and we shall try and help you as best we can ;)

Your a star mate  If we ever met, ill buy you a couple of drinks.

Cant thank you enough.

Yer it went in style :D Loads of smoke and a lovely smell. Cant get rid of it, lol the garage stinks

Shall i send the old bits to you  They can go in the sach technical museum of wasted clutchs

Take care mate

It's the getting it all back together that scares me.....you end up with a pile up bits that must go back on and always some bolts leftover with a large scale job like that. :D

Well, if you're an amateur cowboy like me you do anyway.

 no worries matey, as regards to getting the smell out, id just make sure you air the garage for a while lol, as it does stink.

Regarding the hall of wasted clutches  we already have one ;) ill get some pics on monday to show you  and tbh yep you have done a good job, but belive me, we have seen worse ;) its frightening what sort of plebs are out there LOL

I'm now wondering what the actual pressure plate will be like on mine when she gets opened up in a couple of weeks time. She needs to be in good condition for her new owner, who will hopefully not abuse it like I have done. :D

Is there a good way of "treating" a clutch which has slipped once, to try and preserve it for the new owner? Something like a re-facing? or simlar?

Not really nope, imho, when a clutch first slips, thats it, it has started the slippery slope of becoming gradually worse. A clutch will never be as good as it once was after it has slipped, you can of course try to drive around the issue of slip but whats the fun in that? If your going to replace the drive plate then yes you may get away with it as all you will have done is discolour the pressure plate.

Post some pics up when the clutch is out and ill try my best to advise you on what i think is ok with it ;)

Shall do  - I don't drive it gently even now, but it's not slipped since that drag strip "incident" - I do occaisonally find the revs seem to "hang" when I lift off the throttle for a gearchange high up in the revs, but that's more likely to be my driving.

I must go out and get a video before the new clutch and box goes in.

there arn't many cars with the torque of yours,i doubt it would slip in a mapped car

the record at our garage is about half a mile , from the customer picking up the new car to no drive due to clutch burn out , the driver had only recently passed their test though

What were they doing  Driving with the clutch pressed in abit

now you're over the 'hump' - you've done all the teardown and now for some careful re-assembly - more than halfway there IMHO.

Good to see you have some good advice from some real pros as you work along. Fitting one certainly doesnt make one an expert by any stretch of the imagination, lol

Nope it certainly doesnt

Got the new flywheel on and all tourqued up. bought myself a clutch alignment tool so will build that up tonight and bolt that to the flywheel.

All the bolts that need replacing are on order. Just got to sort fitting the cupra bushes to the consoles and give the gearbox a clean

I arnt at home, drove to sheffield in the hilux and i am now in the library "working" :P well trying to find anything to do but my muilti story building design project

Will be home soon and working on the car :D

i'm not holding up too much hope of cracking mine in 4 hours:rofl:

when you put the gearbox in , just make sure it goes in straight and level , or damage will occur to the clutch plate , its a solid disc , so wont take much to bend it , if it bends you wont be able to get any gears as the clutch wont clear

been there , done that on a Granada Scorpio about 10 years , all had to come apart again for a new plate :o

Yer i was thinking about this last night. my plan is to make some sliding bars that will fit into the threads on the engine side and then the gear box can slind along these into position. the sach clutch plate does look very britle and i agree i cant see it liking been bent too much
