OMG that BMW!

Featured Replies

I suppose most of you have just watched Top Gear, how awesome was the BMW? Bless it!! It can drive the track on it's own! That's got to be the weirdest feeling though....

Upscale it to the national road network and give it a Windows OS. Carmageddon redefined

Joking aside, impressive stuff seeing as it didn't poodle round the track like a Prius

Wonder what its time was :cool:

Best Top Gear ever IMHO. Just wish we knew what the time was.

I don't think the time is that relevant considering it's a 330i. It's the clever bits of kit in the car that everyone was interested in.

I would imagine the car wasn't driving to it's absolute limits either, it was probably electronically pegged back to reduce the chances of wrapping it round a tyre wall.

That car would suit my nan actually. She's worked at her current job for some 14 years, yet cannot get there unless she has her TomTom. She wouldn't need it if she had one of those.

That was such an amazing show today.

That BMW was really clever, KITT becoming a reality?

Must have been an automatic though

But i wouldn't want my car to drive me anywhere yet.

I don't like my mates auto wipers.

I don't mind cruise and climate control though.

I really enjoyed the show tonight, the BMW was amazing!! :)

Agreed, the BMW was fantastic! And just how did Lewis Hamilton get that laptime

ROFL at James and Jezza trying to stop the vintage car :D:rofl:

I liked the french literal translation manual! pmsl!

that bmw was odd..... i would love to know if each lap was exactly the same if u set it off on a full tank of fuel.....

I'd imagine so, its all plotted so it will just head for the plots otherwise it might end up going into a wall. it can't see the road or anything can it.

Great show. Lewis is a god. Great bit of translation there.

Does that mean the Stig's lines, acceleration, steering and braking were all pre-programmed or was it using cameras/feedback looks to work out the best approaches (presumably it needed a "sighting" lap to identify the track)? I noticed it had "track training" emblazoned on it so maybe it can be set up to demo a course.

Certainly looked very tidy and I'd have loved to seen how the lap times compared with the presenter's laps.

Lewis Hamiltons lap in the the Liana was amazingly fast.

I guessed that he'd just come under Mansel. and that was in the wet!!!

He's a born driver.

Lewis , i think , cut the corner at Hammerhead

VXR8 was pretty good , looked nicely controllable

Good mix of TG antics and more 'standard' content tonight, IMO.

That Beemer was an auto - would have been nice to see it shifting manual gears itself though :) My take on it was that it had a sighting lap and logged corner points.

Would have been nice to have it as a proper report, rather than stuck at the end though. And to compare the time with a human lap :)

Lewis though - what can you say?! - just hope he comes back at some point for a dry lap!!

And quite a liberal cut at the 2nd to last corner! Still, credit where credit's due

Chris

He likes cutting the odd corner though anyway :)

Everyone is doing it now! I'm sure that if he'd cut it completely, they wouldn't have allowed it though. Looked like he went right to the edge to me. The way he kept the car balanced when sliding it through the turn was awesome!

Seems to make sense; the only real way of navigating the corner while carrying some speed

Blunt's exit out of the final turn was amusing too :D

Steve

best TG for a long time.

need some b@ll$ 2 sit in that bm without touching any controls at that speed...

blunt was a good laugh, cot out clarkson cuple of times... :D

I honestly though BMW were going to announce they'd finally got the indicators to work. Now that would be a technological advance:D

I think that's some way off yet...
