Factory Fitted Oil - Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

I'm told that from the factory the Fabia vRS (2006) comes with enginer oil that is a bit special and is used to sort of "break" the engine in.

Can anyone shed any light on this as to whether this true and any information about it such as how important this is?

Thanks,

The oil from the factory stays in the engine until the first service so it shouldn't matter.

What is specific is that if it is a TDi then you should use the correct VW specification oil when refilling.

The reason I ask is that I may soon be an owner of a vRS.

The seller has had the vRS since new and has only done 700 miles but has had it since March '06. I haven't asked him yet but suspect he has had his yearly oil change.

Some people are telling me that because he has done very low milage it could be worse. Especially if this factory fitted oil has only had change to work for 700 miles.

Not something I've ever heard of. Service intervals are set for a reason, as long as it's been complied with it's largely not an issue.

However a 1 year old car that has only done 700 miles is slightly unusual but it shouldn't put you off if the rest of the car is sound and you believe it to be genuine mileage.

600 miles in 19 months?

Why buy a Fabia vRS and park it for 19 months?

There's nowt so queer as folk.

Jeepers, if I had the chance, assuming price and car are OK, I'd jump at it. Then I'd change all the fluids / filters and have a super-duper low mileage DPPR.

Mathepac's comments are sound (& yes, I'm envious).

Many people get ex-motobility cars with low mileage and then have problems. The oils, greases, etc are old, have absorbed water etc and when asked to do their job, fail. Change everything, check all levers (esp brakes & handbrake) and the bits connected to them. Well worth the effort. Best of luck to you with this great motor.

I think that this is the comment that I would be thinking of making. Anyway, with automated component manufacturing and engine assembling plants, modern car engines are built to extremely tight tolerances. I think that in the cheaper end of the car market, only Honda claim to use a "running in" oil on some of their engines. Always remember that the engines fitted to the top end models of these VAG small cars are just large engines in small cars and not super highly tuned versions of the normal engines - nothing exotic here!
