PD160.....what does it do...

Featured Replies

ok guys explain to a complete Skoda newbie what this thing is and what does it do? I see a few cars on here running this modification but dont know what it does. I am assuming its a Seat Leon part?

Charlie

Its off the Ibiza cupra TDI 160PD,

it goes from the slam panel to the air box and is just a larger intake pipe than standard 130 PD one

As Jase has said - allows more air / better breathing and apparently essential for a remap.

ahhh pretty similar to the set up on the beetle that I had then. Cheers guys much appreciated

same with astras g's too. they all do a veccy c mod. basically taking a vectra inlet on the astra. I did this, its about double the size intake.

Empties your bank account or makes you storm off from the dealership, muttering in a huff! :D

Unless you know one of the guys in the parts department ;) trying to talk him into doing me a deal on the intake n a strut brace. If anyone is interested i'll post how i got on....possible bulk buy on the horizon??? lol

It does nothing, use the wonderful 'search' to prove me wrong

i was talking to jbs about this and i was hoping they would say it was crap so i could save some money but actually said it was a good mod and did make a difference especially with a remap therefore i have a brand new one in my bedroom ready to be fitted ha ha

i may well be interested on said group buy :D

I was wondering about this as I am considering a remap.

I recently did a favour for a husband/other half of a friend in the US - some software to work out dimensions associated with the flow of water - slope, width, depth and so forth. So in return and as its kind of the similar I asked him to look at the pictures on the fabia-vrs.com site and see if he could work out the potential increase in flow. I'm still awaiting the answer. and he is going to get some car tuning bods to look at it too.

These are Americans though so they probably know f*ck all about Diesels.:)

I'm still not convinced though, after all this feeds the turbo and there is no throttle anyway on a Diesel to restrict it. I wonder if SEAT decided to use it because of the bigger turbo the 160 has ? If indeed it has a bigger turbo  But the key thing which seems to limit it is the fact hat the thin end is the same size for both types of intake.

I would like to see a RR of before and after with no other changes - I think thats the only way to determine if it really works and if the difference is good value especially now the price seems to have gone up so much.

Is anyone making a copy yet ?;)

I'm on the case! lol I'm off to see him in the morning to see what he can do for me (he better do it or i'll be forced to kick his teeth in lol) He managed to get me the LCR splitter for £20 inc vat AND i got it delivered! lol

You have to compare the trumpet end to see any difference. The airbox is is deeper than it first appears and is probably 2x the area at least of the standard trumpet/horn intake. Add in that the hose itself is narrower and it can be a major restriction.

J.

Pd160 definately makes a difference after a remap.

Doubt if you would see higher power but it feels that you get max boost earlier and have it for longer therefore increase in performance without an increase in power!

Best hand in hand with a high flow air filter

I think I will invest in this to sit alongside the remap and FMIC I have already eyed up via a friend.

Just a reminder to people that there is a sticky on the (over) pricing of the PD160, so if you have any info on the price from your local SEAT dealer, please post it on the sticky.

Good call - I'm interested to see the new version someone is developing... (is it Awesome doing this?).

Jon

getting mine fitted tom so will let you know what my thoughts are mine has been remapped..fingers crossed!!!

i would highly recomend a brake upgrade before a re map,and a jabba rarb, and coilovers, and clutch, and an lsd but if you only do 1 it would be the brakes:D
