Today i found another little security feature!!!!!

Featured Replies

Well went out in the car today and realised that even if you have unlocked all the doors when you initially got in the car once you have started and gone somewhere the boot cannot be opened unless the driver opens his door or presses the door unlock button.

The mrs had got out of the passenger side and went round to the boot but couldn't open it till i opened the drivers door. Tried it again later just by using the unlock button on the drivers door and that works also.

I'm assuming it's to stop someone opening your boot and nicking whatever is in it while your stood in traffic etc.....

There ya go.... Yet another little feature i've only just found after over 18 months of having the car.:thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers

Dave.

ye i noticed that to dont like the idea to be honest much prefer the doors to automatically lock over 5mph or something

just get the dealer to enable anti hijack, then all doors lock over 5mph

I was going to have that done before i collected the car till i realised the constant locking/unlocking noise would drive me round the bend and make me think i was in a black cab. :D:D:D

i have it on mine,it only locks once, and only unlocks when the driver opens his door,or you crash:D

i like it,tho no one has ever tried to jack me:rolleyes:

I had an attempted car jacking. Was in my golf at some traffic lights when a blue nissan primera pulled up behind me.

3 eastern europeans got out a walked towards my car. one opened my passenger door and booted it away.

I always carry my 46" breaker bar down the side of my seat now, just incase i get a puncture and the wheel nuts are diffecult to crack off ;)

Oh god yes, to be honest all good, responsible motorists should carry a large breaker bar; of at least 30" in length to ensure that when the unthinkable happens and you do get a puncture you can dispatch the assailant...I mean loosen the wheel nuts with total ease and efficency. ;)

agreed its a breaker bar officer,:rofl:

the constant locking/unlocking noise would drive me round the bend

Also good for alarming passengers ;)

Epecially late at night, when i first started going out with claire, the first time she went in my car she admitted to me that she was scared when the doors locked

that may have been a good comedy moment john:D

LMFAO

Then she saw the large body bag, readymix concrete and spade on the back seat and got REALLY scared. :D

You Mafia types are so cliche.

We have a VW van at work that has the anti hijack on it, when you doing 80+ stops in a day it becomes very annoying with it clicking on and then off when you get out. grrrrrr.

Did you read the recent BBC news article about an American motorist who tried to blow a wheel nut off with a shotgun? :D

A US man has injured himself in both legs after attempting to loosen a stiff wheel-nut by blasting it with his gun.

The 66-year-old man from Washington state was repairing his car outside his home when the accident took place.

Shooting at the wheel from arm's length with his 12-gauge shotgun, he was peppered with buckshot and debris.

The man - whom police say was on his own and not intoxicated - was taken to hospital with severe, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The man, from South Kitsap, 10 miles (16km) southwest of Seattle, had been repairing his Lincoln Continental for two weeks, according to the police, and had removed all but one of the nuts on the right rear wheel.

Frustrated by the one remaining nut which refused to budge, he resorted to fire power in an effort to shift it.

"He's bound and determined to get that lug nut off," said Deputy Scott Wilson, a spokesman from the sheriff's office.

He sustained injuries from his feet to the middle of his abdomen, with some pellets reaching as high as his chin, police said.

I personally have always favoured carrying a 6 D Cell Maglite, "Honest officer it's only a torch", Very handy if you get into mechanical difficulties or you need to see something a very very long way off. And as a bonus it rapidly diffuses tricky situations

That's exactly what we used to have in the drivers door bucket in the CTR. It was a near perfect fit too...... Innocent enough to carry a torch but heavy enough to get someone out of your car.:thumbup::thumbup:

used to carry these on patrol in N ireland, great for subdueing any wayward large dog that took a dislike to us.

Back to boot opening. I did not know about this feature and it did cause a little friction as I was accused by SWMBO of locking the boot as a joke whenever I went to pick her up from a shopping trip. I would stop; she would try to open boot to put in shopping; She would say,"You've locked it again". I would get out and open with one finger. She thought it was my protest at her use of the plastic, whilst I thought that she was just hopeless.

Mine doesn't appear to have this feature enabled - thank goodness. It would drive me nuts.
